Just moved to Henderson? Do it in this order

Learn one thing about Henderson before anything else: it is inside Clark County, but it does not give the same answer as the other settlements there. Where the neighboring large city and two unincorporated towns go to the same door item after item, Henderson goes to its own city government, its own police force, its own court, its own water utility and its own library district. A phone number a friend gives you is, on most items here, the wrong number. And the most concrete practical difference is on water: a person who does not want to hand identifying data over the telephone can open the water account in person at city hall with photo identification, and the city publishes that sentence itself; the neighboring water district publishes no equivalent. But not everything differs: electricity, gas, the school district, property tax, the marriage license and the birth certificate all come through the same doors as elsewhere in the county, and we set those out separately too. Below are the 30 everyday tasks Henderson newcomers search for most, with links to the official sources. Statewide rules are kept short and linked to our Nevada guide.

  1. Day oneLearn that your counterpart is the city. On most items here, from a code complaint to a building permit, you call the city and not the county.
  2. 10 daysIf you are subject to address reporting, report your new address to USCIS (AR-11). A move inside the city counts too.
  3. Week 1Open the utility accounts: water and sewer on one city account, electricity and gas from two separate companies. Refuse starts with the water account.
  4. Week 1If you prefer not to give identifying data by telephone, open the water account in person at city hall. The city publishes that route itself.
  5. Week 1Find out your watering group. The group is assigned by address, and Sunday is never allowed in any season.
  6. 30 daysIf you moved from another state, the reported deadline to apply for a license is 30 days. Without a number the route is a separate card.
  7. With a carRegistration and the emissions test. One day without insurance has a price here; there is no grace period.
  8. NowEnroll your children in school. The district is county-wide; a driver license is not accepted as proof of address.
  9. NowApply for health coverage: the marketplace is the state's own. After October 1, 2026 Nevada treats children and pregnant people differently from some other states.
  10. Week 1Get a library card, but from the city's own library district; a branch in the neighboring city is not your system.
  11. Week 1Open a transit fare account. Drivers give no change and passes are not sold on board.
  12. If marryingThe county has a marriage license branch here: four weekdays, closed over lunch, and no cash.
  13. If you boughtThe property tax cap does not arrive by itself; recording a deed drops the prior abatement and the card must be signed and returned.

Consulate, apostille and other Türkiye-related tasks are at the end of the page. Statewide rules are in our Nevada guide. Download this checklist as a PDF (first 90 days)

In person, with photo ID

The city publishes the no-telephone route for a water account: a person who prefers not to give identifying data by phone can open it at city hall.

Its own department

Policing did not join the valley-wide merger. On towing, traffic and accident reports the first contact is the city police department.

Four days, no cash

The county marriage license branch here is open four weekdays, closes over lunch, and does not accept cash.

1973

The county agency holds birth records from this year onward. An earlier Clark County birth cannot be obtained there at all.

01 · License

How do I get a driving credential in Henderson, and what if I have no number?

Short answer

A driving credential is a state matter. Henderson is a real city with its own police force, its own municipal court and its own code, but none of that touches this item: the agency and the rules are the same across Nevada. The state answer has two routes: if your documents are enough, a standard license or REAL ID; if they are not, a Driver Authorization Card. The agency's own handbook states that a Social Security number is not necessary to obtain that second card. But the two routes differ by more than a document list: they are two separate information regimes. The full document list and the statewide detail are in our Nevada guide; what belongs here is where you book and what the card does and does not open.

Steps, documents and official links

Two routes, two separate information regimes

The two sentences below come from the same official driver handbook, and we print them side by side. Which one fits you is a decision for you and your lawyer; this page does not decide.

  • For the status-independent card: the handbook states that information used to obtain it will not be released or used to determine legal presence or immigration status. On a separate page the agency quotes the statute itself: the card may not be used to determine eligibility for any benefits, licenses or services issued or provided by the state or its political subdivisions.
  • For the standard license and REAL ID: the same handbook states that any immigration documents presented will be submitted for electronic verification of lawful status.

The second sentence is about the documents presented, not a promise or a threat about the card itself. This page calls neither route safe nor risky: no promise and no threat, only the agency's own two sentences.

We also print a conflict. The agency's published document list for that card contains no lawful status document. Yet the agency's new resident page says foreign nationals may or may not be eligible depending on their specific immigration status. The two sentences do not point the same way; we take no side and suggest you ask the agency for a written answer for your own situation.

What the card says on its face

The agency describes it this way: there are only two differences between that card and a standard license. It states Not Valid for ID in the top portion, and the blue banner carries the card's own name instead of the word license. The appearance is otherwise identical. There is no colored stripe or cut corner of the kind other states use.

Three other markings are often confused. A REAL ID carries a gold state silhouette and a star. A standard card that is not REAL ID carries NOT FOR REAL ID PURPOSES. A card issued on temporary status documents is additionally marked Limited Term, and the agency states it expires on the verified departure date, or after one year where no date is supplied.

Where the card is accepted, where it is not, and what we could not verify

The county's own assistance applicationResearch did not find out

Those last five are your real life, and there we do not say refused, we say we could not find out. The county assistance door is the riskiest: for adults the county requires one identity document to be a valid, unexpired, Nevada government issued photo ID showing a Clark County address. A Henderson address is a Clark County address, but we could not confirm from the county's own text whether this card satisfies that requirement.

The document side for a Turkish reader

  • One of the identity options for the status-independent card rests on two foreign documents together: a foreign passport with a foreign birth certificate, or a foreign passport with a consular identification card. On the standard route the same documents appear on the not accepted list, and the agency adds immediately below that many of these are acceptable for that card. The system is deliberately two-doored.
  • Every document must be an original; photocopies and scans are not accepted.
  • The translation rule binds a Turkish reader directly: every non-English document needs a complete translation from a translator the agency has approved, carried by a signed statement bearing the translator's agency number. Summary translations are not accepted.
  • Two residency documents are required, both showing your name and a Nevada street address. A post office box is not accepted. If you have no bills yet there are two routes: a notarised statement from a Nevada resident or the agency's own residency certification form, and a hotel or recreational vehicle park record longer than thirty days. For a household spending its first month in a hotel, that second route is a real way out.

Tests, language and an interpreter

A person licensed in Türkiye falls into the agency's category of licensed in a foreign country other than Canada and takes all three tests: vision, knowledge and road. Research found no driver license reciprocity program with Türkiye; the only program the agency publishes is for another country. The published languages for the knowledge test are English and Spanish; we found no record of it being offered in Turkish.

But there is an interpreter route on the written test, and it is the agency's own rule: an applicant who lacks English or Spanish may use an interpreter for the written examination. The conditions are set: the interpreter must bring an approval letter from a government agency, court, educational institution or non-profit advocacy organization, must sign a declaration at every session, may not interpret for a family member, is paid by the applicant, and is not allowed during the road test.

Your deadline, and the office question

  • The driver handbook gives thirty days to a person moving from another U.S. state. We found no separate deadline for a person arriving directly from abroad, and we do not generalise on our own. Ask the agency.
  • You must surrender an out-of-state license to obtain a Nevada one; the agency punches it void, returns it to you, and the new card arrives by post.
  • We publish no office address, and there is a reason. The agency's own announcement states that the Henderson office is to be consolidated with another office into a single facility. We could not verify the effective date. Open the agency's current office list before you travel; the link is below.
  • Licence and vehicle registration business is handled in one visit by the same technician. All cards arrive by post, tracked through the agency's online account with the interim document issued at the counter.

Fees, and two separate conflicts

On the agency's current fee page the status-independent card is $22.50 and valid four years; a standard license is $41.50 for eight years; the first knowledge and road test is $25 and each retest $10.

We print both conflicts and take no side. First, one agency page shows the duplicate fee as $17 while two others show $17.50. Second, and more systematic: the printed driver handbook shows every item twenty-five cents lower. The agency's own ordering is clear on this, since the handbook says current fees are on the website; even so, open the fee page yourself before you go.

02 · Car

How do I register a car in Henderson, and is an emissions test required?

Short answer

Registration and emissions are both the state agency's business; the City of Henderson has no role at all. An emissions test is required here, but not because you are in the county: the program covers a drawn area, the Las Vegas Valley plus a buffer zone around it, and Henderson sits inside it. Move two items to the front: one day without insurance has a price, because Nevada recognizes no grace period; and an out-of-state policy is not accepted, the policy has to be written for Nevada.

Steps, documents and official links

Emissions: the boundary is a drawn area, not a county line

The agency defines the test area as the Las Vegas Valley and a five-mile buffer zone around it. Henderson is inside it. But phrase it correctly: some outlying settlements of the same county appear by name on the agency's exemption list, so if you are in the county you are covered is wrong. If your address sits near the edge of the buffer, ask the agency.

  • Once a year, and a test is valid ninety days (one hundred and eighty for a vehicle bought from a Nevada dealer).
  • A new vehicle is exempt for its first three registrations; the test is required at the fourth.
  • Hybrids are exempt for the first five model years; testing starts in the sixth.
  • Model year 1967 and earlier, motorcycles, electric vehicles and heavy diesels are outside the program.
  • A transfer between husband and wife does not require a test.

Fee ceilings, and what happens if the test fails

The agency sets maximum test fees per county each year. For Clark County in 2026: light-duty petrol inspection $68.50 plus a $7 certificate, total $75.50; diesel total $90. There is also a $7 pollution control fee at registration. These are ceilings, so a station may charge less; stations must post their fees and may not change them without notifying the agency.

If the vehicle fails, the waiver regime in this county is strict: repairs must have been done at a licensed authorized station (work done by the owner gives no waiver right, whatever it cost) and the minimum spend is $450. A waiver lasts one year only. Vehicles that emit visible smoke or whose emissions equipment has been tampered with get no waiver at all.

The county runs its own support program: up to $975 toward emissions-related repairs on model years 1968 to 1999. We could not verify the income threshold, so we publish no figure; check the program's own site.

What a new resident needs at the counter

  • Proof of insurance written for Nevada. An out-of-state policy is not accepted.
  • An emissions report, if required.
  • A vehicle identification number inspection. The agency's page says this is done at stations outside its larger offices and names the Henderson office among them. We publish no address because of the consolidation announcement; there are alternatives, including a sworn peace officer or an authorized business using the agency's form.
  • The current registration, current mileage and the out-of-state plates. Take the plates off and carry them in; the agency does not supply a screwdriver.
  • You do not have to surrender the out-of-state title.

Exemptions from the governmental services tax are approved not by the city but by the county assessor: veterans, disabled veterans, surviving spouses, blind persons and non-Nevada military personnel stationed here. There is no exemption based on age or the value of the vehicle.

Insurance: fault-based, and no grace period

Nevada is a fault state and the compulsory minimum is 25/50/20. The one practical sentence here: even a single day of lapse can suspend the registration, because there is no recognized grace period. Drive on a suspended registration and officers are required to seize the plates, and the vehicle may be impounded. The prohibited rating factors and the credit question are in our Nevada guide.

The hidden cost of delaying registration

State park entry and camping fees are tied to the license plate: a vehicle without Nevada plates pays a higher rate at every gate, and there is no free pedestrian entry. So delaying registration is not only an administrative risk; it is money out of your weekends. The detail is in the things to do section.

03 · Season

What should I prepare for winter driving in Henderson?

Short answer

The short answer: the seasonal risk here is heat, not snow. Research found no separate winter equipment requirement for the valley floor. Heat, by contrast, ties three sections of this page together: whether your power can be cut depends on the weather forecast, garden watering depends on the day and the hour, and every hour spent outdoors falls under the agencies' own warnings.

Steps, documents and official links

What exists on the winter side

  • There is almost no snow regime on the valley floor. But the mountain roads leaving the valley are another world: winter conditions in the high country of the same county are real and roads can close. Check road conditions before you drive up.
  • The one vehicle rule that runs all year is statewide: petrol vehicles must not emit visible smoke, in any county. There is a reporting line, and the agency investigates reports about vehicles in rural areas too.

What exists on the heat side, and why it belongs here

  • Disconnection is triggered by temperature, not by a calendar. If the forecast for a twenty-four hour period hits the threshold, a disconnection for non-payment is postponed. The detail and four nuances are in the utilities section.
  • Garden watering is tied to a day and an hour, and running sprinklers at midday in summer is itself a violation. The detail is in the water restrictions section.
  • The agencies publish their own warnings and they are not decorative: about four litres of water per person per day in summer, water areas with no lifeguard, and some outdoor facilities closing at midday in summer. A nature site inside Henderson closes at midday in summer too. The detail is in the things to do section.

What this leaves for the car: carry water in summer, do not leave the car parked in the sun for long, and never leave a child or an animal inside it. The snow tyres, chains and salting we write about in other states have no counterpart here, and we do not copy them across.

04 · Towing

My car was towed in Henderson. Who do I ask?

Short answer

And here the answer differs from the rest of the county. In the unincorporated areas of Clark County and in the neighboring large city, policing is a single valley-wide agency. Henderson did not join that merger and kept its own police department. So on traffic and towing the first door you knock on, whatever your envelope or your neighbor's experience says, is the Henderson Police Department. The city also has its own municipal court, so the venue for a traffic citation differs here too.

Steps, documents and official links

The two situations that most often end in a tow

  1. Driving on a suspended registration. The most common cause of suspension is an insurance lapse, and Nevada recognizes no grace period. The agency's own wording is that officers are required to seize the plates if you drive on a suspended registration, and the vehicle may be impounded.
  2. An abandoned vehicle report. Here too the counterpart is the local police force, and the city's own request channel can carry the report.

Fees: we publish no figures, and we say why

Nevada licenses tow operators at state level and each licensed operator files its own tariff with the authority. Under the authority's model tariff templates every item on a tow bill must be itemised, and the charge starts when the truck leaves for the tow and ends when it returns to the yard. But the authority's site never connected during this research, so we could not verify the maximum charges and we publish no amount. What you can do is ask for an itemised invoice at collection and make them explain each line.

The policing map, and why Henderson is separate

SettlementFirst contact for towing and traffic
HendersonThe city's own police department
The neighboring large cityThe valley-wide merged agency
The unincorporated townsThe same merged agency
The north of the stateA separate city department and the county sheriff

That table is not only about towing. Traffic citations, accident reports, neighborhood safety and lost property split at the same line. Pick the number by which city your address is in, not by a neighbor's recommendation.

Vehicle identification number inspections split in a similar way: in the north of the state the county sheriff also provides the service, while in the south it runs through agency offices and authorized businesses. That difference is in the registration section.

05 · Transit

Can I live in Henderson without a car, and how do I pay the bus fare?

Short answer

Henderson is a city with its own government, but we found no record of it running its own municipal bus service. In the sources we read, the only agency serving a Henderson address is the regional transportation commission that covers the whole valley. We do not say there is none; we say research did not find one. In practice two rules matter from day one: drivers give no change, and passes are not sold on board.

Steps, documents and official links

Routes and service types

  • The routes serving the Henderson side include an express corridor route and several numbered local routes.
  • One zone of the agency's on-demand micro-transit service covers the west Henderson side. That is a service you call or request by app where fixed-route coverage is thin.
  • There is door-to-door service for disabled riders, and customers holding that service's identification ride the fixed routes free.
  • There is no intercity passenger rail on the Clark County side. There is in the north of the state; do not carry that answer across.

Fares

Pass typeFullReduced
Single ride, local routes$2$1
2-hour$3$1.50
24-hour$5$2.50
7-day (app only)$20$10
15-day$34$17
30-day$65$32.50

There is a separate family of passes covering the resort corridor, and those also work on local routes. We record a conflict: the agency's mobile fare page shows a single ride at $1, while its main fare page and printed guide say $2. The two do not agree; we take no side, so open the agency's own page before you ride.

Paying: two rules that matter on day one

  • Cash is accepted on board but no change is given. That warning is on the cover of the agency's own guide.
  • Passes are not sold on board. You buy them through the agency's app, at authorized retailers, or at selected ticket vending machines. The 7-day and 15-day passes are app-only.
  • Some of these fares were read from a 2023 printed guide and indirectly from the agency's live page; open the current fare page before you travel.

Reduced fares and the document question

Reduced fares are for youth aged 6 to 17, people aged 60 and over, veterans, disabled riders and those eligible for a particular health program. Using them requires the agency's reduced-fare identification or one of the documents it accepts. Children five and under ride free with a responsible person.

Two honest limits:

  • No identification or number is required to ride at the full fare. You can board with exact cash or pay from your phone; no official page we read imposes an identity requirement for the full fare.
  • We found no Social Security number in the document list for the reduced-fare ID. That is not the same as it is not asked for. And the real open end is this: we could not verify whether the status-independent driving card counts as the photo ID for that application. The agency says driver license or agency ID card, and that card carries a marking saying it is not an ID. Ask directly before you go.

The airport, and two name traps

  • The region's large airport lies inside no municipal boundary; it is in the county's unincorporated area. Bus service is provided by the same regional agency and there is a ticket machine in the terminal.
  • The monorail does not serve the airport; the airport's own FAQ says so plainly. This is one of the most common planning mistakes.
  • There is an airfield inside the Henderson city limits, but it is one of the county aviation department's airfields and we could not verify whether it carries scheduled passenger flights. Do not plan on the basis that Henderson has its own airport; search flights through the region's large airport.

06 · City services

In Henderson, do I take my problem to the city or to the county?

Short answer

The spine of this page in one sentence: Henderson is inside Clark County, but it does not give the same answer as the other three settlements there. Where the neighboring large city and the two unincorporated towns go to the same door on item after item, Henderson goes to its own city government, its own police force, its own court, its own water utility and its own library district. It is in Clark County, so it must be the same is the easiest mistake on this page. But the reverse is a mistake too: not everything differs, and we set out both lists below.

Steps, documents and official links

Here the city is a real counterpart

Henderson is incorporated. In practice that means an elected mayor and a council organized in wards, its own municipal code, its own business licensing, its own building and planning arm, its own municipal court and its own public response department. In the county's unincorporated towns none of that exists: there the county commission is by law the town board, and the advisory boards are not decision-making bodies.

What that means for a newcomer: for a code complaint, a building permit, a business license or a problem with a tree, a street or a traffic signal, you do not call the county; the city has its own request system, and the topics it lists include code enforcement, streets, traffic signals, water waste, weeds, graffiti and junk cars. One honest note: the direct page for that department returned 404 in our 10 October 2026 check, so the link below goes to the city's department index rather than to the department page.

Where Henderson differs, and where it does not

ItemThe other three settlements in the countyHere
Municipal governmentOne has it, two towns have none at allYes
PolicingA valley-wide merged agencyThe city's own department
Minor offense and traffic courtCounty and justice courtsA municipal court
Water utilityA county water districtA city department
SewerA separate county district, billed to the ownerThe same city account
Refuse authorityThe county's franchise unitThe city
Reporting channelThe county's own channelThe city's own channel
Library systemThe regional systemIts own separate library district
Marriage license counterDowntown, seven days to midnightIts own branch, four days, no cash
Business licensing and zoningThe countyThe city

And the items that stay the same, because over-correcting is also a mistake:

ItemIdentical here
Electricity and natural gasThe same two companies and the same regulator across the valley
The heat-triggered disconnection postponementThe same rule, the same thresholds
School districtOne district county-wide; Henderson has no district of its own
Property assessment and tax billingThe same county offices
State income taxNone, statewide
Sales tax rateThe county rate, the same
The substance of the watering ruleThe regional schedule, the same
Landlord and tenant lawState law, the same
Fair housing complaint bodyThe state commission, the same
Licence, registration, insurance, emissionsThe state agency, the same
Who issues a birth certificate and a marriage licenseThe county, the same

The school district does not split, and that matters

Henderson has its own city government but no school district of its own. The school district is county-wide and Henderson addresses sit inside it. So do not assume this is a separate city, so the schools must be separate too: which school your child attends is decided by address, not by the name of the city. The detail is in the school enrollment section.

The library: a separate district here

We have to hedge heavily: neither library system's site could be read properly this round, and what follows was read from the institutions' own text but indirectly. Confirm at a branch before you go.

  • Henderson is not inside the regional library system; it has its own separate library district. A Henderson resident who goes to a branch in the neighboring city for a card is at the wrong door.
  • From the wording we read, all Nevada residents are eligible for a card here, but access to the digital collection is limited to Henderson residents.
  • A card requires photo identification and proof of address. Online registration opens digital access immediately, but borrowing physical items requires in-person verification. The first card is free, a replacement costs a small fee.
  • If you already hold a card from another Nevada library, there is a route to register that card here instead of applying afresh.
  • We found no statement that a Social Security number is required. That is not the same as it is not required: the published requirements say photo identification and proof of address, and do not mention a number.
  • A library card has a second use: the state park pass lending program runs through library cards. But we could not verify whether this system is lending them this year; we describe the structure in the things to do section and we do not say it is available.

A name trap, and this one is in your favor

A free museum carrying the county's name is in fact inside Henderson. Because it carries the county name, readers assume it is in the neighboring large city; it is not. It is free, open daily, and it is this city's most valuable free item. The detail is in the things to do section.

The reverse is true too, so do not try to correct it: a state historic park carrying the neighboring city's name really is in that city. And as a general rule: the city on an envelope is not proof of jurisdiction. Even some of the county's own parks carry the neighboring city's postal address.

07 · Utilities

How do I open utility accounts in Henderson, and what if I have no number?

Short answer

This section in one sentence: a single household sits under three separate legal regimes, and you can tell which door to use from the provider's name. Electricity and gas are inside the state regulator's rulebook. Water here is a city department, which puts it outside that supervision. And the most useful practical fact on this page sits exactly there: a person who does not want to hand identifying data over the telephone may open the account in person at city hall with photo identification, and the city writes that sentence on its own page.

Steps, documents and official links

The provider map

ServiceProviderRegulated
ElectricityNevada Power Company, trading as NV EnergyYes
Natural gasSouthwest Gas CorporationYes
WaterCity of Henderson Department of Utility ServicesNo
SewerThe same city department, the same accountNo
RefuseA private company franchised by the cityNo

Electricity and gas are identical to the neighboring settlements. Having a city government changes nothing in those two items. What changes is water, sewer and refuse, and in all three the counterpart is the city.

The rule you can read off a name, and it is sharper here

The state regulator names names on its own consumer page: for certain water agencies it says contact your county commission, and it states plainly that it has no regulatory authority over refuse collection services. It also gives a naming rule: it does not regulate providers whose names contain authority, district or mutual.

Here there is one step further: your water provider is not even a district, it is a department of the city. So a dispute on an electricity or gas bill can be taken to the regulator; on water, sewer and refuse that door is closed, and the counterpart is the city council and the city's own departments. That is different even from the picture in the neighboring settlements, where the counterpart is the county commission.

Water and sewer: one account, one bill, and a documented route

  • Water and sewer come from the same city department and arrive as one account and one bill. In the neighboring unincorporated towns a tenant has no sewer account to open at all; here you do, because it is the same account as the water.
  • Starting, stopping and transferring service is done by telephone or in person at the service center in city hall (240 S. Water Street).
  • The route in the department's own words: it states that it works with a credit bureau to verify identity and assess deposits, that identifying information will be requested to open an account over the telephone, and that a person who would prefer not to provide that information may open the account in person using photo identification at the office. The neighboring water district publishes no equivalent sentence. This is the most concrete difference between the two pages, and it is a real-life one.
  • The residential deposit is a minimum of $150 and is collected up front when the account is created. The department states on its own page that the deposit policy is the same for all residential customers.
  • The deposit may be refunded after at least one year of on-time payments; it is applied as a credit after fourteen months of on-time payment or against the closing bill, whichever comes first. A refund can take up to eight weeks to reach you.

The number question on electricity and gas

  • The regulator's own answer: some utilities may require a Social Security number, but many provide an alternative such as a driver's license number. The electricity provider's own privacy text lists driver's license, passport and state identification among the documents that may be requested to verify identity.
  • We could not find whether an individual taxpayer identification number is accepted. It appears neither in the tariff nor in the privacy text; we do not write that it is accepted.
  • The gas provider's identification and deposit rules could not be read at all this round, because its site never connected. We write it neither way; ask directly.
  • No guarantor may be required on electricity. The tariff's own sentence is that a customer may not be required to use a guarantor to begin service.
  • The new-service deposit ceiling is 150 percent of the estimated average monthly bill, calculated from the last twelve months of actual usage at that premise. The deposit is waived on documentation for people receiving disability benefits, Social Security or retirement payments, active military, veterans, and anyone who enrols in automatic payment and maintains it. That last one is a rule-based way out for a newcomer with no U.S. credit file. For elderly customers the ceiling is halved.

Disconnection: the trigger is temperature, not the calendar

The electricity provider's tariff filed with the regulator postpones a disconnection for non-payment during a forecast period of extreme temperature: if the national weather service forecasts 105 degrees Fahrenheit or above or 15 degrees Fahrenheit or below at any point in a twenty-four hour period, the moratorium applies. Those two figures appear in both the regulation and the tariff, so we write them with confidence. Five things must be said alongside:

  1. No dates at all. No season, no start and no end; the protection exists only on the days the forecast hits the threshold.
  2. A postponement, not a cancellation, and only for disconnection for non-payment. The debt remains.
  3. Lower thresholds for elderly and disabled customers appear in the regulation but not in the tariff. The tariffs predate the regulation and the two do not agree here. So we write this as a possibility rather than a certainty: if your household includes an elderly or disabled person, ask your provider and record the answer.
  4. Gas is conditionally carved out of the heat half. The same tariff states the high-temperature postponement does not apply to the gas utility unless natural gas is essential for air conditioning at that dwelling. There is no such carve-out on the cold trigger. Do not drop that condition.
  5. Water and refuse are entirely outside this regime, and that is sharper here. The tariff binds the electricity company only; your water provider is a city department and is not under the regulator. A regulator newsletter describes the extreme-weather limit for electric, gas and water utilities, but the water there means regulated water utilities. We could not verify whether any heat-based protection reaches the city's water customer, and we assert it neither way.

Protections that do not depend on temperature

  • Medical postponement: if a doctor or public health official certifies in writing that disconnection would be especially dangerous to the health of a permanent resident of the household, the utility must postpone for thirty days, extendable by thirty more on a renewed certificate. The letter must name the service address, the ill person, a clear description of the health issue and the professional's name, title and signature. It does not cancel the debt.
  • Notice: ten days written notice before disconnection, stating the reason, the amount that would prevent it and the earliest disconnection date; if still unpaid, a second notice at least forty-eight hours beforehand.
  • No disconnection at weekends or on holidays, absent a safety issue.
  • Restoration after payment: on electricity, same day if payment arrives by 10 a.m., otherwise within twenty-four hours. The gas commitment is weaker: as soon as conditions permit.
  • Complaints go to the regulator, but it cannot help with a provider it does not regulate, so that door is closed for water, sewer and refuse.

Refuse: opening the water account creates the obligation

The structure here differs from the neighboring towns. There, refuse runs through the county's franchise unit and the party named on the bill is the property owner. In Henderson the municipal code makes refuse collection mandatory for any premises connected to city water. So opening the water account is what creates the refuse obligation; you do not need to find a separate company and sign a separate contract.

We publish neither the code section number nor a rate. The section number was not confirmed directly in the municipal code text, and the current refuse rate could not be read this round. Confirm both at source.

Internet: the counterpart is neither the city nor the county

We publish no provider names, and we say why: we could not verify them from an official source, and the city's own franchise list was not read at all this round. We can describe the structure: video service franchises in Nevada are issued by the state. The practical consequence is that on internet service the complaint authority is neither the city nor the county. We write nothing about speeds, prices or availability; in this state availability varies address by address.

08 · Water rules

Which day can I water my garden in Henderson?

Short answer

The watering rule applies here too, and it is not a temporary drought measure but a permanent regime. The city's own page says every customer is assigned, by address, to a watering group labelled A, B, C, D and E, and that group decides which days you may irrigate. Watering on Sundays is never allowed, and irrigation between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. from 1 May through 31 August is not allowed. We publish no fee ladder, because we could not read this city's own schedule and we do not copy the neighboring water district's.

Steps, documents and official links

The rule in the city's own terms

  • The regional watering schedule limits residential and commercial landscape irrigation by season.
  • Every customer is assigned to a watering group based on their location address, and the groups are labelled A through E. You do not choose the days, and your neighbor's day may not be yours. The city publishes an address lookup for your own group.
  • Watering on Sundays is never allowed, in any season.
  • Irrigation between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. from 1 May through 31 August is not allowed. The city calls this the time-of-day restriction.
  • Watering by hand using a container or a positive shut-off nozzle on a hose is allowed any day of the week, regardless of your assigned days.
  • There is an exemption request for reseeded or patched turf: thirty days, once per year, requested through the city's own request channel under the conservation topic. The time-of-day restriction still applies during that exemption.

On penalties: we have the structure, not the figures

Let us be honest. We could not read this city's water waste fee schedule in this research. The neighboring water district publishes a detailed ladder, but that district does not serve Henderson addresses and its rules do not bind one. Copying that ladder onto this page would have been wrong and we have not done it.

What we can tell you correctly: the substance of the restriction is the same (regional schedule, the Sunday ban, the summer midday hours), while enforcement is the part that diverges and your counterpart is the city. Ask the city for its own schedule, and if a notice arrives, keep its date and reference number; appeal routes hang on the date of the notice.

Tenant or owner

Care is needed here too. The verified rule that binds tenant and owner together, and that turns an unpaid balance into a lien, belongs to the neighboring water district's own service rules, and those rules do not bind Henderson. We could not read the city's own water waste enforcement text, so we do not build the same chain here.

The practical advice for a tenant is unchanged all the same: whoever holds the water account receives the bill and the notice, and an unresolved irrigation problem becomes a matter between you and your landlord in any event. If a notice arrives, do two things: fix the fault, and tell your landlord in writing.

The mistake newcomers actually make

Turning on the sprinklers on moving day without knowing three things: that the group is assigned to the address, that Sunday is never allowed in any season, and that 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. between 1 May and 31 August is prohibited. A household that moves in during June and waters at midday has broken the rule before the bags are unpacked.

The decorative grass rule: there is a date on the calendar

The state adopted a measure requiring the removal of nonfunctional decorative turf; the prohibition is on irrigating it from a particular water source. The rule ties the obligation only to properties not zoned exclusively for single-family residences, so home gardens are outside it. Why should you care, then? Because the common areas of homeowner associations are not outside it, and the city lists those associations among the covered properties. If you rent or buy in such a community you may see common-area grass removed, assessments levied for the conversion, or landscaping disputes. The deadline for non-residential properties is the end of 2026 and the water prohibition begins in early 2027, so this item is about to change. Ask the association before you sign.

09 · Renting

Is there a local ordinance protecting tenants in Henderson?

Short answer

The honest answer: we do not know, and we write that as it is. The position here differs from the two unincorporated towns: because Henderson has a city government and a municipal code, a city tenant ordinance is in principle possible. We could not verify whether one exists, and we could not verify whether the state forecloses cities from this field. The state legislature's site never opened during this research. We do not write that there is none; we write that research did not find one.

Steps, documents and official links

The structural difference, and its limit

In the neighboring unincorporated towns the question is structurally closed: there is no city there, so there can be no city ordinance. Here that door is structurally open. But open is not the same as occupied, and we keep two things apart:

  • Does the city have its own tenant ordinance: research did not find one. The relevant parts of the municipal code could not be read this round.
  • Does the state bar cities from legislating in this field: a pre-emption clause of the kind seen in other states was not found, but its absence could not be verified either.

Statewide and verified

What follows comes from the state landlord and tenant statute. The statutory text itself could not be reached; these items were read from the state supreme court's tenant handbook, the county's civil law self-help center and the region's free legal aid organization, and are at medium confidence for that reason.

  • The security deposit is capped at three months rent. If the landlord also collects the last month in advance, the deposit may not exceed two months.
  • You may demand a signed written receipt for the deposit; if the landlord refuses, rent may be withheld until it is provided.
  • A landlord generally cannot demand a second deposit mid-lease.
  • Permitted deductions: unpaid rent, reasonable cleaning costs and damage beyond normal wear and tear.
  • Within thirty days of the tenancy ending for any reason, including eviction, the landlord must return the balance or give an itemised written accounting.
  • Wrongful withholding can expose a landlord to up to twice the amount of the deposit.
  • On a sale, the former owner must either return the deposit or transfer it to the new owner.

Protected classes: two things that are not on the list

The protected class list in the state's fair housing provision was read: race, religious creed, color, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, ancestry, familial status and sex.

  • Source of income is not on it.
  • Immigration status is not on it.
  • All the section headings of the tenancy statute were scanned: no section dealing with status or tenant screening was found.

And the same limit applies: we could not verify their absence. We write neither a landlord may not ask about status nor no such protection exists.

One item not to confuse: certain housing projects the county itself funds carry a source-of-income condition. That is a funding condition, not a general rule, and it does not apply to an ordinary flat you rent.

Three verified things you do have

  1. A retaliation bar: there is a provision prohibiting a landlord from retaliating after certain complaints.
  2. A complaint body: housing discrimination complaints go to the state equal rights commission. Filing is free and no attorney is required; the limit for housing complaints is one year from the last alleged violation, and the commission's current page asks for complaints to be filed online. An important warning: in Nevada, time spent with the commission does not pause a court deadline.
  3. The fact that the rights the tenancy statute gives a tenant are not tied to status in any section.

Two of the commission's own documents do not match, and we record it: the list on its website and the list on its printed poster differ; one names ancestry and omits familial status, the other does the reverse. We take no side; ask the agency before you build a file.

Free help, and rental licensing

Two organizations in this region publish free tenant material and referrals: the county's civil law self-help center and the region's free legal aid organization. Both operate county-wide, so they serve a Henderson resident too.

On rental licensing there is a split, and the county writes it on its own page: the county's short-term rental ordinance applies only to unincorporated Clark County, and someone with a property in Henderson must contact that municipality. We could not read the city's own rental and short-term rental rules this round; if you plan to let a property, ask the city directly.

10 · Property tax

If I buy a home in Henderson, does the property tax cap apply automatically?

Short answer

No, and this is the most expensive misunderstanding a new owner makes. There is a second surprise here: even with a city government, property tax is entirely county business. The county assessor values the property, the county treasurer bills and collects, and the city's own rate is one line inside that same county bill. As for the cap: an owner's primary residence carries a 3 percent cap, while homes that are not owner occupied, land and commercial property carry a cap of up to 8 percent. But recording an ownership document drops the previous 3 percent abatement.

Steps, documents and official links

Read the mechanism correctly

This is a cap on growth, not a discount. The difference between 3 percent and up to 8 percent is not the amount of tax but how fast the bill may rise year on year. Do not carry across the rate-difference logic you may have seen in other states.

  • Eligible property types: single-family house, townhouse, condominium and manufactured home. Only one property in the state may be selected as a primary residence.
  • The procedure is a postcard. The county assessor mails a card to qualifying owners, and the task is one sentence: sign it and return it promptly.
  • Recording a deed drops the cap. Any recorded ownership document removes the 3 percent abatement for an owner-occupied home; if the document number in the records changes, a new card must be completed to keep the abatement for the following year. Transferring the home into a trust is named among those reasons.
  • A refinance alone, where it creates no ownership document, does not affect the abatement.
  • Properties whose ownership or document number changed during the fiscal year get a new card after 1 July.
  • New construction and a change of use get no cap at all for that fiscal year; they qualify from the following one.
  • Corrections can lag: the assessor says volume may delay the cap appearing on the bill, and that an amended bill comes from the treasurer once it is updated.

Rentals can reach 3 percent too

The county mails rental affidavit letters in April or May each year. If every unit is let at or below the stated rent figures, signing and returning the affidavit can bring the property within the 3 percent cap. Those rent figures are not a rent ceiling, only the test for that tax cap; they cannot be read as rent control.

What we could not verify

We could not verify whether an individual taxpayer identification number is accepted on the cap claim. The claim is made by signing and returning the card the assessor mails, which suggests the identity link runs through the recorded deed rather than a taxpayer number, but that is an inference, not a finding. We assert it neither way. If you bought with such a number, call the assessor when the card arrives or fails to arrive, and write the answer down.

The state income tax side does not belong in this section: Nevada has no personal income tax, and what replaces it is in the taxes section, along with the local components inside the sales tax rate.

11 · School

How do I enroll my child in school in Henderson?

Short answer

The surprise here is this: Henderson has its own city government but no school district of its own. The district is county-wide and Henderson addresses sit inside it. So on this item you get the same answer as the neighboring settlements, and which school your child attends is decided by address, not by the name of the city. The district's own enrollment page states that it does not collect or verify immigration status and cites a state statute. The two items that actually decide the matter are the immunisation record and proof of address.

Steps, documents and official links

The four document categories

  1. Proof of address, one document. Accepted: a recent utility bill, a current mortgage statement, a rental receipt, a residential lease or a sales contract. Telephone bills and cable bills are not accepted, and a driver's license does not count as proof of address for this purpose.
  2. Parent or guardian identification: a driver's license, picture identification or a passport. Guardians should have proof of guardianship ready.
  3. Proof of the child's identity: an original birth certificate, a passport, or a certified birth card issued by a health district. Photocopies are not accepted.
  4. Immunisations. Required by state law, with exemption possible for religious belief or a medical condition. The county health district helps with access, and the district points to its own immunisation events and school-based health centers.

On the number question we speak carefully: the published required-document list contains no Social Security number. The identity documents named, a passport or birth certificate for the child and a passport, license or picture ID for the parent, are all obtainable without one. But that is not the same as a number is not asked for; it means it is not written on their pages, and we mark the difference.

Three provisions that rescue a family with incomplete papers

  • The shared housing option: families with no lease, mortgage or utility bill in a parent's name can select this option during online registration. For a newcomer household staying in someone else's home, this is the real door.
  • A future-dated agreement: if all you hold is a future-dated lease or sales contract, the school will register the child on condition that a second proof of address is supplied within thirty days.
  • A document support program: one of the district's programs may help obtain an original birth certificate, and families receiving its services get extra time for immunisations and proof of address.

Age, grade and a child arriving from abroad

  • Kindergarten requires turning five by 1 August; first grade requires six and completed kindergarten, and completion cannot be met by an online or homeschool program.
  • A child transferring from another state may be enrolled in the grade they were attending or would have been attending, provided they meet that state's age requirements and can produce a report card, transcript or formal grade promotion letter.
  • An honest gap: that sentence is written about other states. We could not find the district's published rule for a child arriving from another country. For a family from Türkiye this is a real question; ask the school or the district in writing before enrollment and keep the answer.

Language: the correct sentence is not that there is service in Turkish

There are three separate numbers here, and we do not average them, because the three count three different things:

What is countedHow many languages
The online registration system itselfTwo, English and Spanish
The intake tool that identifies a family's home languageForty-nine
The district's flagship documentEight

And Turkish was not found on any list we read. That is not there is no Turkish; it is we could not find it.

But here is the real point, and the right does not depend on the language: state law recognizes a parent's right to a qualified interpreter in their own native language, and the office to ask is identified. So the sentence for this page is not there is service in Turkish: there is a right to request, and this is its door. Ask in writing before the meeting and record the date you asked.

12 · Health

What can I do in Henderson if I have no insurance?

Short answer

Three things. First, the marketplace is the state's own: coverage is bought not on the federal site but through the state's own exchange. Second, a naming trap: the state health agency was restructured in 2025 and the former name is still everywhere in the paperwork. Third and most important: the federal change of 1 October 2026, and here Nevada's answer differs from many states. None of this depends on the city; research found no health program run by Henderson itself.

Steps, documents and official links

Four names, all correct, none of them the same thing

  • The marketplace is Nevada Health Link, operated by the Silver State Health Insurance Exchange. It is not the federal site.
  • Nevada Medicaid now sits under the Nevada Health Authority, following a bill from the 2025 session. The former agency name is still everywhere in the documents; a letter you receive may carry the old one.
  • The children's program is Nevada Check Up.
  • Applications run through the Division of Welfare and Supportive Services via the Access Nevada portal. We record a conflict: the portal address appears in two different forms in two official documents; we take no side, ask the agency.

The 1 October 2026 change, and Nevada's election

The federal rule is this: from that date, federally matched full coverage for non-emergency medical assistance is open to four status groups. Refugees, asylees, people with temporary protected status, parolees and visa holders are not on that list.

But Nevada took an option, and years ago. The state elected the federal option for lawfully residing children and lawfully residing pregnant people; the federal agency's own implementation document states that a state which has elected it must determine those people eligible for full benefits and must maintain coverage for current beneficiaries.

  • Do not merge the age limits: the option reaches 21 on the Medicaid side and 19 in the children's program. Two programs, two ages.
  • Lawfully residing is not the same as any immigration status. A person with no status is not reached by this.
  • Two things we could not verify, and we say so: we found no announcement from the state about this change (other states have one), and we could not locate the conforming filing the state owes the federal agency. Confirm with the agency's own page.

Emergency coverage survives 1 October

Federal matching for emergencies continues, and the federal agency lists it first among three exceptions. But the same document names a gap: in a separate children's insurance program there is no authorization for emergency services. So for a child who is not lawfully residing, that door is not open in the same way. We could not verify which type Nevada's children's program is, so we write that consequence as a possibility rather than a certainty.

The same Act also lowers the federal matching rate for emergency coverage. That changes what the state pays, not who is eligible; read it as budget pressure, not as a loss of entitlement.

The application form and two honest limits

The application portal carries a pre-screening question indicating whether a person should head for Medicaid, the children's program or the marketplace. The published document list is a generic one: proof of citizenship, a social security card and income documents.

  • Do not give up on the basis of that generic list: emergency coverage and the lawfully residing child and pregnancy route do not turn on the applicant's own citizenship.
  • Research found no Nevada policy text lifting a number requirement for an emergency coverage application, and found no source stating whether or not Nevada reports applicants to immigration authorities. We assert neither one in either direction.

The statewide detail and the full list of program names are in the health section of our Nevada guide.

13 · Health

Are there free clinics in Henderson?

Short answer

First the sentence that matters most: a sliding-fee clinic is not a free clinic. The discount is calculated on household income and family size and you still pay something. We write this separately everywhere because it is the most misunderstood item on the page. Second: in an emergency the answer is different, because under federal law a hospital emergency department must screen and stabilise regardless of ability to pay or immigration status.

Steps, documents and official links

Sliding-fee centers

The membership body for these centers is the Nevada Primary Care Association, which publishes the list of organizations on its own page; on the Clark County side that list names the Southern Nevada Community Health Center.

  • We publish no addresses. Take them from the clinic's own site; we do not print addresses pulled from federal health center data files.
  • And one sentence we do not add: that list of organizations says nothing at all about immigration status, so we cannot write that status is not asked.
  • The membership body's own wording is that these centers provide services regardless of ability to pay and charge on a sliding fee scale. A sliding scale is not free.
  • We could not separately verify which center serves Henderson itself; the counts and service areas conflict across sources and we publish none of them.

Emergencies: two separate matters

  1. The screening and stabilisation duty is federal and does not depend on ability to pay or immigration status. That does not mean the bill disappears; the right to treatment and the question of payment are two different things.
  2. The payment route behind it is emergency coverage, which survives the 1 October 2026 change. The detail is in the health section.

On the Clark County side University Medical Center is named as the local public hospital, and county social service documents describe its discharge planners working with county staff.

The county assistance door, and the hard identity barrier there

Henderson is a Clark County city, so the county's social service unit serves you too. But let us be plain about two things:

  • We found no county indigent medical care program. The assistance items we could find are rent, burial and out-of-state transport, plus certain homemaker and alternative care programs.
  • There is an identity barrier at the door: the county requires two forms of identification for each household member, and for adults one of them must be a valid, unexpired, Nevada government issued photo ID showing a Clark County address. We could not verify whether the status-independent driving card satisfies that; the detail is in the license section. Applicants are also expected to have applied first for Medicaid, unemployment insurance and other applicable programs.

For a disputed hospital bill the county's own directory points readers to a consumer health assistance service. We could not verify that office's full current name or which agency houses it after the 2025 restructuring, so we do not name it; take the current form from the directory.

14 · Marriage

How do I get a marriage license in Henderson, and what if I have no number?

Short answer

This state is the outlier in the series: no waiting period, no blood test. And here the county has its own branch, so you do not have to drive downtown for the license. But the branch has its own hours and its own payment rule: open four weekdays, closed over lunch, closed on legal holidays, and cash is not accepted. The downtown bureau is open seven days until midnight but does not accept checks. So being in the same county does not mean going to the same counter.

Steps, documents and official links

Where you go

The license is issued by the county, not the city. Having your own city government changes nothing here. The branch sits at 240 S. Water Street, which is the same building where you open the water account in person. For a newly arrived couple that means two tasks in one trip.

ItemThe branch hereThe downtown bureau
Days openFour weekdaysSeven days
Hours8 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed over lunch8 a.m. to midnight
Legal holidaysClosedOpen
CashNot acceptedAccepted
ChequesNot accepted at either

One more warning: some county offices do not issue licenses at all, and one of them says so in capitals on its own page. Confirm which office you are going to, and that it is open that day, before you travel.

Both of you must appear in person at the same time. There is an online pre-application that saves time at the counter, but the license is not issued online. The fee is $102. Card payment carries an additional fee, and the county states on its own page that fees may change without prior notice.

Documents: this county's strongest feature

The county lists the following among accepted proofs of name and age in writing:

  • A passport
  • A consular identification card
  • An official foreign government issued ID card or driver license, so long as it carries a date of birth

Three rules bind: documents must be originals, not digital copies or photocopies; the document must carry your photograph; and a foreign birth certificate must be translated into English with the translation notarised. If you are arriving with documents from Türkiye, the order is: certified translation first, then the notary, then the counter.

One detail causes trouble later: the license and the certificate are issued in the name exactly as it appears on your identification. If your passport spells out a middle name, that is what goes on the document; if it shows an initial, the document shows the initial.

The number question: the county's sentence and its limit

The county's own wording is: if you are a United States citizen and have been issued a Social Security Number, you must provide it. The obligation is tied to citizenship, and there is not a word about anyone else.

And here we stop. We found no Nevada source saying a license is refused to a person without a number, and none saying it is granted. We write neither and we promise no outcome. The one correct step is to call the counter before you go and note the answer. One more point: practice in the neighboring county differs, where a person without a number is asked to state that fact and no document is demanded. Do not carry that answer here; these are two separate counties.

Age, ceremony and the certificate itself

  • The minimum age is eighteen; at seventeen, parental consent and an order from a Nevada court are required. Marriage under seventeen is prohibited.
  • A license is not a marriage. The ceremony must be performed by someone authorized in Nevada, one witness is required by law, and a ceremony performed outside Nevada on this license is not valid.
  • After the ceremony the certificate is recorded by the county recorder, so the office that issues the license is not the office that issues the certificate. What name-change procedures ask for is the certified copy of the certificate, not the license.

15 · Vital records

Where do I get a birth certificate in Henderson?

Short answer

Nevada runs a hybrid: a single statewide office plus two county health agencies. A child born in Henderson gets the certificate from the county health agency; neither the city nor the county has a separate vital records counter here. And there is a date limit worth knowing: the county agency holds birth records from 1973 onward. An earlier Clark County birth cannot be obtained there at all and goes to the state office.

Steps, documents and official links

Fees, payment and timing

  • $38 for the first copy and $25 for each additional one. The first copy includes a component for registering the certificate with the state registrar, waived on later purchases if you can document it was already paid. If no record is found, a $10 non-refundable search fee applies.
  • Personal checks are not accepted. Debit, credit, money order, cashier's check and business check are; mail and drop-off orders require a money order or business check.
  • Processing runs two to four weeks. There is no same-day and no overnight service, and a finished certificate is held sixty days from the date of payment.
  • The office is open four weekdays. One detail: in the county to the north of the state the fee is lower and the records go back much further; do not carry that answer here, they are two separate agencies.

Who may order

Nevada restricts these records to a direct and tangible interest: the person named on the record, the parents named on it, people related within the second degree by blood or marriage, people with a legal relationship, and applicants where the law requires it. Identification is required for every request.

The single most valuable sentence for a newly arrived family: a parent ordering a child's birth certificate only has to prove their own identity; no further relationship document is required.

Identification: the state office's list names foreign documents

This is one of the strongest doors in the series for a person without a number, but we must name the source correctly. The list below comes from the identification list published by the state vital records office, whose primary documents expressly name:

  • A foreign passport
  • A consular identification card
  • An employment authorization card
  • A temporary resident card
  • A visitor visa accompanied by a valid arrival record

And an observation: a Social Security number appears nowhere on this office's published proof and identification lists. We write that as an observation about those two documents, not as no Nevada form asks for a number.

A warning, and it matters: that is the state office's list. We could not read the county agency's own accepted identification list in this research and we do not copy one onto the other. Confirm the county's list on its own page before you go.

If your photo identification cannot be uploaded with an online application, the county points to the postal route, but that route also asks for a copy of your identification. So it is not a way through for someone with no identification at all; read it carefully.

The scam warning, and the one authorized online channel

We pass on the county agency's own warning: it says it has received an increased number of calls about third-party vendors selling certificates, and that those companies charge high fees to process or help apply. Complaints are directed to the state attorney general's consumer protection bureau. Do not use sites other than the single authorized online channel all three offices recognize.

One last distinction: marriage and divorce records are not held with vital records; they sit at county level. If you know the date and the county, apply there directly. The detail is in the marriage section.

16 · Social Security

How do you get a Social Security number in Henderson?

Short answer

An SSN is issued only to people with work authorization or a legally required reason for one, and the agency that issues it is federal. If you arrived on an immigrant visa and asked for the number on the visa application, the card comes by mail. People who adjust status inside the United States with an I-485, or who tick the SSN box on an EAD application, also receive the card automatically. Otherwise you start the application online and attend an appointment; there is no fee. Two things up front: Nevada has no office that issues an SSN or anything that stands in for one, and no Social Security Administration street address appears on this page, because we could not verify a single one from an official source this round. If you hold an appointment notice, the address on that notice is the one that counts. In Henderson the real question is not how the number is obtained but which doors open without one, and here one thing sets this city apart from the rest of the valley: Henderson has its own city government, so at some of those doors your counterpart is the city rather than the county.

Steps, documents and official links
  • What to bring: your current immigration document (green card, I-94 or EAD) and a valid passport, plus a birth certificate if you have one. Photocopies and notarised copies are not accepted.
  • F-1 and J-1: an SSN follows work authorization (on-campus work, CPT, OPT). It is not issued simply because you enrolled.
  • Which office covers you: enter your ZIP code in the agency's own office locator. Nevada sits in one time zone, so you do not need to convert an appointment time; see the time difference section.
  • General line: 1-800-772-1213. A replacement card is free and can usually be started online.
  • If your surname changed on marriage, update the record at an office; there is no charge.

A map of the no-number question in Henderson

The table below separates the doors in this city. Statewide answers are set out in our Nevada guide; here we keep only what changes locally. The thing to watch for is this: Henderson is in Clark County, but not every line in this table is answered by the county.

DoorIs a number asked forBasis and counterpart
Driver authorization cardNoThe state driver handbook states in its own words that a Social Security number is not necessary for this card. It is issued by a state agency, so the answer does not change by settlement. See the driving license section
Water and sewer accountThe utility publishes a second routeHere water and sewer come from a city department, and the city writes that someone who does not want to give identifying details over the phone can open the account in person at city hall with photo identification. That is a concrete difference from many addresses in this valley. See the water and waste section
Birth and death certificatesNoA Social Security number appears nowhere in the state vital records office's identity lists, and a foreign passport is listed as primary identification. But vital records are not a city function: a certificate for a birth here comes from the county health district or the state office. See the birth certificate section
Marriage licenseThe duty is tied to citizenshipThe county clerk's own sentence places the duty to supply a number on a U.S. citizen who has been issued one; it says nothing about anyone else. And here the counter is inside the city: see the marriage section
School enrollmentNot on the district's published listThe district that serves this city covers the whole county and separately states that it does not collect or verify immigration status. See the school enrollment section
Work cardNot a number, a different documentThe card is issued by the county police department and a person born abroad is asked for an extra identity document. But that department does not police Henderson and Henderson's own procedure could not be verified. Set out in full in the tax and work section below
County social assistanceNot a number, an ID card problemThe county's assistance office asks for a valid, unexpired, Nevada-issued photo ID showing a Clark County address. A Henderson address is a Clark County address, so that part is fine; the hard part is which card is accepted. See the benefits section below
Library cardNo statement found that one is asked forAnd here the system is a separate one: this city is not served by the valley's large library district, it has its own district. Card types read for the other side of the valley cannot be carried here; we write it with a heavy hedge below and in the free things section
Forming a company, opening a bank accountCould not be verifiedNo official answer was found for either. We do not guess; see the business section below

The line people misread most is the driver authorization card. It asks for no number, but the top portion carries the notation Not Valid for ID, so by the agency's own wording it is not an identity document. You can hold a license and still have no ID, and in Henderson that distinction bites in two specific places: the county assistance counter and the passport acceptance counter. Both are set out below and in the passport section.

What having a city government means for this section

Of the four settlements this guide covers in this valley, two have no municipal government at all and one has a city that still leaves part of the work to the county. Henderson has a city, and some doors really do open there: water and sewer, the operating license, the library and the police are all city matters here, or matters for a district of its own. By contrast vital records, marriage licenses, the school district, sales tax and property tax are county or state matters, and on those the answer is the same as everywhere else in the valley.

The practical upshot in one sentence: before you go to a counter, ask whether that counter is a city, county or state one. We name the counterpart in every section on this page, because calling the wrong body is the most common mistake made in this city.

ITIN: for tax, not for identity

Someone who cannot get an SSN but must file a federal return uses an ITIN. You apply on Form W-7, attached to a federal return unless an exception applies. In the agency's own words an ITIN does not provide or change immigration status and does not authorize work; it is not an identity document either.

  • Three ways to prove your documents: post the passport to the address the agency gives, use a certifying acceptance agent, or attend an agency office that reviews ITIN documents by appointment. The last two mean you do not put your passport in the post.
  • Which office in this valley performs that review could not be verified this round, and we publish no federal tax office address here. Confirm the office and appointment through the federal tax agency's own locator; the appointment line is 844-545-5640.
  • One thing works in your favor: because Nevada has no state income tax you file no state return, so the problem of filing a state return on an ITIN never arises here. The federal obligation is unchanged.

17 · Tax and working

What comes out of your pay in Henderson, and what do you need before you start work?

Short answer

Nevada levies no personal income tax: no state income tax is withheld, you file no state return, and the federal withholding form has no state equivalent here. But this page will not tell you there is no tax, because that is not true: the tax exists, it has moved. Henderson is in Clark County, so the rate you pay at the till is 8.375 percent, and a large share of local services is funded from property tax. The second item is starting work at all: in this valley some jobs require a separate card issued by a police agency, the card is issued by the county police department, and that department does not police Henderson. Henderson's own procedure could not be verified this round and we are not inventing an answer: ask the city before you start.

Steps, documents and official links

Sales tax: what is inside the rate tells you the county's priorities

  • Sales and use tax in Clark County is 8.375 percent, and Henderson is in that county. The figure comes from the state tax department's own components document. Do not carry that rate to another county; other Nevada counties differ and the large northern county is lower.
  • The real information is inside the rate. The Clark rate contains two separate police components and a water authority component; in the northern county the largest local component is a schools facilities share approved at the ballot box. In other words, what local government spends on can be read out of the rate you pay at the till.
  • There is a small irony here worth writing down: those police and water components are collected county-wide, but Henderson's water comes from a city department and its policing from its own force. So the components inside the rate at the till do not map one to one onto the bodies that serve you. That is not an error; it is what collecting a tax at county level looks like.
  • It is a retail tax, so it is blind to income. For a lower-income household the burden can be proportionally heavier than in a state with an income tax. Do not base a move on the sentence no income tax alone.

What takes the place of an income tax

  • Property tax, charged on your home or on the property behind your rent. Caps and abatements are in the property tax section.
  • Modified Business Tax on employers, 1.17 percent statewide. It is not deducted from your payslip; it is a tax your employer pays, but it can surface in a pay negotiation.
  • Commerce Tax above a turnover threshold. If you are starting a small business, ask about the threshold from the outset.
  • Federal tax is unchanged. If you have no SSN you file on an ITIN; see the section above.

The work card: an invisible precondition, and here there is a gap

Nothing like this has appeared anywhere else in the series, and it follows directly from this valley's economy. Some jobs require a separate card issued by a police agency. It is not a professional body license and it is not federal work authorization.

  • The issuing body is the police, but which police is an open question on this page. In the valley the card is issued by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department; the department's own FAQ states that the colloquial sheriff card and the work card are the same thing. But that department covers the City of Las Vegas and unincorporated Clark County; Henderson did not join the 1973 consolidation and kept its own force. So that answer does not automatically apply here.
  • And we write it plainly: Henderson's own work card procedure could not be verified this round. We do not say there is none, we say we could not find one. When you get an offer, ask two questions at once: does this position need a card, and which body issues it. Confirm with the employer and with the city; the city's general line is 702-267-2323.
  • What the published procedure looks like: the lines below come from the county department's own pages. Whether they apply in Henderson was not verified, but they show how a work card works in this valley and at the very least tell you which questions to ask.
  • The detail that matters most: you cannot get the card before you have the job. The department's own answer is explicit: you must obtain employment first, your prospective employer provides the application form, and the employer signs it. The order is: offer first, card second.
  • A person born abroad is asked for an extra identity document. The department's own list reads: if born outside the United States or a U.S. territory, bring one additional form of identification, and the three options named are a United States Passport, a Naturalization Certificate and Authorization to Work documents. We do not rewrite the agency's wording: the requirement is not phrased as lawful status but as those three options. A foreign passport does not appear on that list; only a United States passport does.
  • And a risk: the photo identification the department accepts includes a license issued by the state motor vehicle agency, but whether a driver authorization card is accepted at that counter could not be verified. Given that the card itself says it is not valid for identification, that is a real risk. We do not write that it is enough; ask before you collect the form.
  • Which jobs need one: the department's own answer is that city and county ordinances and state law determine which positions require a card, and it publishes no list of occupations. That sentence matters doubly in Henderson, because a rule that turns on a city ordinance means Henderson's own ordinance here. We publish no list either.
  • Term and scope: the county department's card runs five years, there is no renewal and you reapply. It is valid only for the type of work printed on it; a change of employer requires notice within five days, and a change in the type of work requires a fresh employer-signed application. Fingerprints are taken at the department, without exception, electronically.
  • Bars: a card is not issued to a person with a felony conviction, and a false statement on the application is also a ground for refusal. Other convictions do not bar an application; the decision follows the rule governing the position, and a refusal may carry a right of appeal.
  • Fee: the department's own page gives 67 dollars from 1 October 2026, plus 40 dollars for a federal background check where one is required. Fees are not refunded. If Henderson has its own schedule we could not read it.

Three cards the department no longer issues

This paragraph saves a day outright. Old information circulating online still sends people to the wrong counter, and the county department lists on its own page the cards it no longer handles.

CardWhich body issues it nowWhat remains with the police
Casino employee cardNevada Gaming Control Board. The county department has not processed these since 1 July 2004Electronic fingerprint submission only, 75.25 dollars
Security guard and private investigator cardNevada Private Investigators Licensing Board, (702) 486-3003Electronic fingerprint submission only, 58.00 dollars
Child care work cardThe state health agency's child care licensing unit, (702) 486-3822None

Keep that distinction in mind in Henderson too. A large share of the jobs that require a card sit in tourism and entertainment and the first card a newcomer hears about is the casino one. The casino card is no longer issued by the police; it moved to a state board, and that board's answer does not change by settlement.

Working in a neighboring state: a gap we are not filling

Because Nevada has no income tax there is no state tax for a reciprocity agreement to cover. But whether someone who lives in Henderson and works in a neighboring state must file a return there could not be verified this round, and we are not inventing an answer. Ask a tax adviser before you start; if withholding is set up wrongly the difference arrives all at once in April.

18 · Starting a business

How do you form an LLC in Henderson, and what should you watch for?

Short answer

Formation goes to the Nevada Secretary of State through the state's own business portal, SilverFlume. We publish no filing fee in this section, for a concrete reason: every one of that office's sites sat behind a bot wall this round and we could not read a single figure from the agency itself. We do not republish third-party numbers. What we can state with confidence is that a business in Henderson faces three separate counters, and here the third one is different from the one unincorporated parts of the valley use: the entity is registered with the state, the trade name with the county, and the operating license with the city. There is good news too: you do not have to drive to the county seat for the trade name filing, because the county clerk keeps a branch in this city.

Steps, documents and official links

Three registrations, three bodies

  • The entity sits with the state. LLC or corporate formation, the state business license and annual filings all go to the state office through the portal. Nothing here is Henderson-specific.
  • The trade name sits with the county, but the counter is in this city. If you use a business name that does not show the owner's real name you file a fictitious firm name certificate with the Clark County Clerk. The clerk's own locations and services page lists its branch at 240 S. Water Street as one that takes fictitious firm name filings. The window is narrow: Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed from noon to 1 p.m., closed on legal holidays, and cash is not accepted. The statute the clerk's own document cites requires the filing in every county where the business is conducted, so a business operating in the north as well opens a separate file there.
  • The operating license sits with the city, and this is the most practical sentence on the page. Henderson is an incorporated city, so it runs its own business licensing: City of Henderson Business Licensing. The county's rule that anyone operating a business in unincorporated Clark County must hold a license does not apply here, because this is not unincorporated territory. But we could not read the city's licensing procedure, requirements or fees this round, so we publish no requirement or figure. Call the city before you apply, 702-267-2323.

The trap here is not an address trap but an assumption trap: many guides to this valley write that if you are setting up in Clark County you get your license from the county. That sentence is wrong for Henderson. Which service comes from the city and which from the county is set out in the local services section.

Lines to read in the trade name filing

  • The filing does not give you the name. The clerk's own warning is that filing the certificate does not give exclusive rights to the use of that name. Most readers assume the opposite.
  • Fee and term: a new filing or renewal is 25 dollars, a termination 20 dollars, and a mailing-address update is free. The certificate runs five years, with a reminder sent to the address on file roughly 60 days before expiry. Cash does not work at this branch; bring another means of payment.
  • There is no online filing. The clerk keeps an original signed form, so the document is posted or handed in, with a self-addressed stamped envelope for the return.
  • The signature rule raises the identity question. An older clerk page requires the form to be either notarised or signed in front of a deputy clerk, and the second route calls for government-issued photo identification. Whether a foreign passport satisfies that requirement could not be verified. Call before you complete the form; the clerk's general line is (702) 671-0600.
  • The wrong form comes back. There are separate forms for a sole proprietorship, a general partnership, a registered entity, a trust and a series LLC. The owner name on the certificate must also match the name on the state business license exactly.
  • The clerk's own note: fees are set by the state legislature and the county commission and can change without prior notice. The amounts here are as at 10 October 2026; confirm before you pay.

What we are not writing, and why

  • No LLC fee at all. Articles of organization, the initial list of managers, the state business license, the annual list and name reservation: no figure for any of them. Third-party guides also contradict each other. Read the amounts on the state office's own pages before you pay.
  • Nothing about the city's licensing fees or procedure. We could not read them; we do not say there are none, we say we could not read them.
  • We do not state the registered agent requirement as settled. It is reported that a registered agent must hold a Nevada street address, and that is an ordinary rule in this series, but this round it came only from third-party sources.
  • No official answer was found on whether an SSN or ITIN is needed to form a Nevada LLC. This is precisely the question this readership asks and we are not filling it with a guess. Ask the portal's support line and ask for the answer in writing.

Two free things to do before you spend money

  1. Check the standing of a name on the register. Before joining a business as a partner or paying a deposit, check its status through the portal or by phone.
  2. Settle which body licenses you before you start. For restaurants, salons, child care and the like, state formation alone is not enough. If your address is inside the Henderson boundary your counterpart is the city; an address just outside it answers to the county. One street can mean two different authorities, and a missing license pushes an opening back by weeks.

19 · Public benefits

Will taking a public benefit in Henderson affect my green card application?

Short answer

It can. The federal public charge rule that took effect on 18 September 2026 rescinded the 2022 regulations and, in the agency's own summary, gave officers broader discretion to weigh all relevant facts. The assessment widened rather than narrowed. The same rule also contains one concrete sentence for an anxious reader: benefits received before 18 September 2026 are assessed under the older, narrower rule. On the Nevada side the most important fact is this: the option the October 2026 federal change left to states is one Nevada took years ago, for children and for pregnant people alike. The Henderson-specific part is a door problem: this city has its own city hall, but social assistance is not a city function, and the county's assistance office asks for a Nevada photo ID showing a Clark County address.

Steps, documents and official links

What changed in the public charge rule

  • Date and scope: the rule was published on 20 July 2026 and took effect on 18 September 2026. It applies to admission applications made on or after that date, and to adjustment applications postmarked or filed electronically on or after it.
  • It is not retrospective: the rule's own sentence states that means-tested public benefits received before 18 September 2026 are assessed under the 2022 rule.
  • Direction of travel: the rule does not list which benefits count; it removes the old list and returns to a totality assessment. That is why no clean list of countable benefits can be published.
  • Statutory exemptions remain: refugees and asylees adjusting status, the special immigrant juvenile category, people filing or re-registering for temporary protected status, and the special statutes covering Cuban and Haitian nationals.
  • Does emergency Medicaid count: comments raising the question are recorded in the preamble, but we could not find a binding agency answer. We say neither that it counts nor that it does not.

1 October 2026 and the option Nevada already held

Federal law now makes full Medicaid payment to a state for four groups only: U.S. citizens and nationals, green card holders, Cuban and Haitian entrants, and people here under a compact of free association. The list is closed: refugees, asylees, holders of temporary protected status and parolees are not on it. The law cuts the federal payment to the state, not a person's coverage.

  • The federal implementation deck names three exceptions: emergency Medicaid, coverage under the CHIPRA 214 option, and health service initiatives. The critical sentence: a state that has elected that option must determine lawfully residing children and pregnant people eligible for full benefits, and must maintain coverage for those already enrolled.
  • Nevada has elected it. Two state plan amendments approved in 2018 cover children, and a further amendment effective in 2023 covers pregnant people; its own summary says it covers all lawfully present pregnant individuals, including those who would otherwise face the five-year wait.
  • Do not merge the two age limits: by the federal deck's own definition the option reaches age 21 on the Medicaid side and age 19 in the children's program. Two programs, two ages.
  • A boundary: lawfully residing is not the same as any immigration status. A person with no status is not reached by this option.
  • Open ends: we could not find Nevada's own announcement about the October 2026 change, and the conformity plan amendment the federal agency requires from every state by 31 December 2026 is not yet visible.
  • Emergency Medicaid survives, named as the first of the three exceptions. But there is no emergency equivalent in the children's program; for a child outside the option there is no payment after 1 October 2026. That is a genuine gap.

In Henderson the obstacle at the counter is not the number, it is the ID

  • Assistance is not a city function. Henderson has its own city hall, its own police and its own water utility, but on social assistance the counterpart is the county. For a reader used to dealing with the city, the commonest mistake here is going to city hall for a benefit.
  • The county's own assistance office, Clark County Social Service, asks applicants for a valid, unexpired Nevada government-issued photo ID showing a Clark County address. A Henderson address already satisfies the address half; the hard part is which card is accepted.
  • And this is where the driver authorization card can fail you. The top portion of the card carries the agency's own notation Not Valid for ID, and the state handbook states the card cannot be used to determine eligibility for benefits, licenses or services issued or provided by the State of Nevada. Whether the county accepts the card could not be verified from the agency's own page, so we say neither that it passes nor that it fails; but think through your second identity option before you go to that counter.
  • Applications and agency names: the state Medicaid program now sits under the Nevada Health Authority, and the former abbreviation is still all over the paperwork; the children's program is Nevada Check Up; applications run through the Division of Welfare and Supportive Services on the Access Nevada portal. All four names are correct and none is the same thing, so saying which program you mean speeds up a phone call.
  • The general document list can frighten a reader, so we put two sentences side by side: the agency's leaflet asks for proof of citizenship, a Social Security card and two recent payslips, and that is the general list; emergency coverage and the option above do not turn on the applicant's own citizenship. We found no Nevada text removing a number requirement for emergency coverage.
  • No source was found on whether Nevada Medicaid reports applicants to immigration authorities. Neither its presence nor its absence should be assumed.

The marketplace is the state's own

  • Nevada runs its own health insurance marketplace: Nevada Health Link, operated by the Silver State Health Insurance Exchange. In some states in this series coverage is bought on the federal site; not here, and the steps written for those states do not apply.
  • 1 January 2027, help narrows: in the federal source's own words, from that date only three statuses qualify for premium assistance. The rest matters: other statuses may still qualify for marketplace coverage but not for the subsidy.

One door we are not sending you to

The state has a body called the Governor's Office for New Americans. This page does not send you there for immigration paperwork, and the reason is not a guess: a federal memorandum of understanding records that the office stopped certain legal-help referrals. That description is the document's description; the office's own site never opened this round, so we could not verify its current position. For an immigration file, go to a lawyer or to the organizations named in the legal help section.

20 · Address change

I moved to Henderson. Do I have to report my address?

Short answer

As a general rule most people who are not U.S. citizens, green card holders included, must report a new address within 10 days of moving. That is a statutory duty, not an administrative preference. The easiest route is the address change screen in your online account; the paper AR-11 is free as well. If you have a case in immigration court you also file Form EOIR-33 with the court within 5 days. What is distinctive about moving to Henderson is this: in this valley a move is often not just a change of home but a change of government. If you came here from elsewhere in the valley, your police force, your water utility, your library district and your business licensing authority all change at once, but none of those is what triggers the federal duty: the move itself does.

Steps, documents and official links
  1. Log in to your online account and open the address change screen. An online report satisfies the duty; you do not also need to post a paper AR-11.
  2. Enter the receipt number of every pending application. Filing AR-11 does not by itself change the address on a pending case.
  3. Tell the postal service separately. A postal redirect does not update the agency's record, and the postal service does not forward this mail.
  4. If you have a court case, file Form EOIR-33/IC within 5 days. The court address changes only through that form.
  5. If you have a reporting condition, also report the address through the enforcement agency's own portal.

Holders of A and G visas and visitors traveling under the visa waiver program are outside this reporting duty.

Three shapes of a move in this valley, and all three require a report

  • From unincorporated county territory into Henderson. A great deal really does change here: your counterpart moves from the county to the city, your police force is no longer the county's consolidated department but the city's own, your water comes from a city department, and your library card belongs to a separate library district. But the federal report is the same report.
  • Moving house inside Henderson. No body changes and the city on your envelope stays the same. You have still moved, and you still report within 10 days.
  • From Henderson to somewhere else in the valley. The trap runs the other way here: at many addresses the city name on the envelope points to no municipality at all and the counterpart is the county. Set out in the local services section.

Add this to it: someone moving to Henderson gives their address to several state, county and city bodies in the first week, from the license counter to the water account, from school enrollment to a benefits portal. None of those is an AR-11. Having given an address to a state, county or city body does not satisfy the federal duty.

And one state-specific extra job: if you hold a driver authorization card, its address change must be done in person, so that is a second errand and it needs an appointment. Set out in the driving license section. A time-sensitive warning too: the state licensing agency has announced that its office in this city will be consolidated into another facility; we could not verify the effective date, so check the agency's current office list before booking.

One more 2026 change: take account of the federal rule that took effect on 29 June 2026 and reworks alien registration and what counts as evidence of registration. The text is in the Federal Register record. Check that the document you carry still counts as evidence of registration.

21 · Immigration agency

Where is the immigration agency's office near Henderson, and where do biometrics appointments happen?

Short answer

We deliberately publish no address in this section, for a concrete reason: the agency's pages were closed this round both to direct access and to automated reading, and the archive service was entirely offline. We do not republish an office address from an old archive, because that is exactly the mistake that sends people on wasted journeys. The only correct sentence is this: the address you go to is the address on your appointment notice. What you do need to know is the office types: a field office conducts interviews, an application support center takes fingerprints and a photograph, and they are not the same place. One more thing up front: Henderson has its own city government, but the immigration agency is not a city department; at this door the city boundary means nothing at all.

Steps, documents and official links
  • Two offices, two jobs: green card and citizenship interviews happen at field offices, fingerprint and photograph appointments at application support centers. Confusing the two costs an appointment day.
  • No walk-ins. Field offices do not take visitors without an appointment; appointments are arranged through the Contact Center. Use your online account for case status and appointment requests.
  • You do not choose the biometrics location: the center is named on your I-797C notice. What to bring is set out in our biometrics article.
  • Do not assume the nearest center. Services in this valley are not distributed along settlement lines; whichever center the letter names is the one that counts, in Henderson or not.
  • What a center does not do: support centers give no information about your case and provide no service other than taking biometrics. Ask case questions at the Contact Center, not at the center.
  • Appointments are free: the Contact Center is 1-800-375-5283. Intermediary sites that charge for an appointment are a scam.
  • Asylum interviews: we could not verify this round that there is a separate asylum office in this valley. Form I-589 is not handed in at an asylum office; it goes through the filing route the agency specifies. The office list is on the agency's own page.
  • Processing times: on the processing times page, select the form, the category and the office holding your case.

Do not confuse the three bodies, and the court says so itself

The immigration court serving this valley points readers on its own page to the separate locators of the benefits agency, the enforcement agency and the government's legal office, and adds a reminder: the benefits agency and the enforcement agency belong to the homeland security department, while the court is a separate body under the justice department. Readers confuse these three constantly; the court will not answer what you ask the agency, and the agency will not answer what you ask the court.

22 · Court

Is there an immigration court in Henderson, and how do I check my case?

Short answer

There is no immigration court in Henderson, and the only court in Nevada sits in the county seat: 110 North City Parkway, Suite 400, Las Vegas, NV 89106, telephone 702-458-0227. Three things up front. First, counter filing happens in a single continuous window each day: 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Some courts in this series split the day into three separate windows; do not carry that warning here. Second, the court does not docket unsolicited faxes and electronic submissions and discards them without notifying the sender. Third, and most practical for someone living in Henderson: the court states on its own page that parking and public transport in its area are very limited. That is the court's own sentence, not our comment. We publish no distance figure, because none came from a source this round.

Fax and electronic filingNot accepted unless staff or the judge specifically asked for it. The court's own wording: unsolicited submissions are not docketed and are discarded without review and without notice to the sender
Parking and transportThe court's own text: there is a private car park nearby at 3.00 dollars per half hour, and a restaurant directly opposite validates one hour. What follows matters: parking and public transport in this area are very limited
Entering the buildingVisitors are taken from the ground floor lobby escorted by staff to the fourth floor hearing lobby and sign in at the fourth floor security point. All electronic devices are switched off before entering the lobby
SecurityMetal detector and bag check on every visit; you may be asked to remove shoes, hats and sunglasses; no food or drink except as the judge permits; cameras and recording devices prohibited
HearingsOpen to the public, and in the court's own words no advance notice of your visit is required

Do not shrug off the parking line. Paying for a car park in half-hour blocks on a hearing morning is an open-ended cost, because you do not know how long a hearing will take. By the court's own warning the alternatives are thin; take coins or a card and do not plan anything else for that day. Transport from this city is covered in the transport section, but the court says the network is very limited in its own area, and we do not put a route suggestion on top of that sentence.

Which court has your case, and one item that matters on this page

  • The federal administrative control list ties a case to authority, not distance. The list sets out which cases a court may control by reference to the federal office that issued the paperwork and to named custodial facilities. The list is on the agency's own page.
  • And on this page that list has a concrete counterpart: in the entry for the court in the county seat, the facilities whose cases it may control include the Henderson Detention Center by name. So the immigration case of someone held at the custodial facility in this city appears on the federal list as controlled by that court.
  • We also write the limit of that sentence: the list says where a case is controlled from. It does not mean that facility holds an immigration detention contract, and we write no such thing; that question was not researched this round.
  • The rule does not change, and it has one sentence: read the notice you were sent. It names the court and the address. The position is different in the north of the state and we set the whole distinction out in our Nevada guide.

A remote hearing is a possibility, not a right

  • The agency publishes an internet hearing link and a telephone access code for each judge; for telephone attendance you dial one number and enter the judge's code.
  • But the agency's own note says this: for people without a representative of record the default hearing format is in person in any event. So a reader without a lawyer should expect to attend in person, which bears directly on the parking warning above.
  • Whether a case is heard remotely is for the judge to decide; this page promises you nothing.
  • Lawyers and accredited representatives must register with the agency's own system. Check that the person representing you is registered.
  • Checking online: the case information system needs only your A number; the telephone line is 1-800-898-7180. The authoritative information is still the hearing notice.
  • Check for closures on the hearing morning: the agency's operational status page and the court's own social media accounts.

Enforcement and customs: we publish the rule, not the address

  • No enforcement or customs office address, telephone number or name appears on this page. Those agencies' pages were closed to automated access this round and the archive was offline. Confirm reporting locations on the agency's own check-in page.
  • Detainee information line: 1-888-351-4024. If you have a reporting condition, speak to your lawyer before you go.
  • If a family member has been detained, find out which facility holds them first, then go to a lawyer. The fact that the facility in this city is named on the federal list tells you which court would control the case; it tells you nothing about the facility itself.

The border zone question: we make no claim

In states with a land border this series has explained the federal reasonable-distance rule. Nevada has no international land border and no coast. Even so, we could not verify from any source this round whether any part of the state falls inside a zone measured from another state's external boundary, and we write nothing in either direction. The only certainty is this: a state line inside the United States is not an external border. We also write nothing about what any officer will do.

Where do I find my I-94, and what if it is wrong?

You can download the I-94 for your most recent entry from the customs agency's site. Errors made at entry, meaning the wrong visa class, the wrong name or the wrong admitted-until date, are corrected by offices called deferred inspection sites. We could not verify the location or hours of that office in this valley this round, so we publish no address or day here; read the list on the agency's own page.

  • Write first, travel second. Some of these offices are open only a few hours a week.
  • They correct only errors made at the moment of entry. They are not a general help desk.
  • Why it matters: the duration of your work authorization and some filing eligibilities turn on what the I-94 says; in this state the validity of identity and license cards can also be tied to the document you present. See the driving license section.

23 · State law

Where do things stand locally in Henderson on federal immigration enforcement?

Short answer

This section does not tell you what will happen; it tells you what the documents say. Three things up front. First: the text of state law could not be read by any route this round, so below we cite statute numbers only as the agencies themselves cite them, quote no statutory text and derive no numbers. Second: our main source is a federal memorandum of understanding signed between the justice department and the governor's office and published on the department's own site. Third, and what sets this city apart: the same document records that the county's consolidated police department rejoined the federal 287(g) program on 4 June 2025, but Henderson never joined that department, and the document contains no record for the Henderson Police Department. That is not an assurance, it is the absence of a record, and we set the difference out plainly below. Read none of the lines below as either a promise or a threat.

Steps, documents and official links

A source warning, because here it belongs at the top

The legislature's own site blocked every route attempted, commercial and non-profit mirrors returned nothing, and the archive service was entirely offline. The memorandum of understanding dated 26 September 2025 that we rely on was read with two separate text extraction methods and the two readings agreed on every figure. We also write what kind of document it is: it is a text in which a federal body and the governor's office record their own undertakings and assertions. Where it characterises a statute, that characterisation is the parties' characterisation, not the statute's own text.

The policing map: this city really is separate, and the reason dates to 1973

A state statute effective 1 July 1973 merged the county sheriff's office with one city police department in this valley; the resulting department has since covered both that city and the unincorporated areas of the county. One of the three city departments that did not join was Henderson's, and it is still separate today. The consolidated department's own history page says so.

  • The practical upshot: at an address in this city the police force is the Henderson Police Department, not the county's consolidated department. So no answer you read about the rest of the valley carries here automatically.
  • And this is the sentence on this page that needs the most care: in the federal memorandum, the record about 287(g) participation exists for the county's consolidated department; no such record was found for the Henderson Police Department.
  • Do not read that as an assurance. We do not say there is no such thing here; we say no record for this department was found in the federal document. The federal agency's own participant list was closed to access this round, which means we have no current status information from the agency itself. The difference between those two sentences is a real difference and this page preserves it.

What the document contains, and in each case what it does and does not say

ItemWhat the document saysWhat it does not say
State statuteTwo sections place on the state attorney general a duty to publish model policies on how public officials interact with federal immigration authoritiesIt does not say the statute directs local agencies to do anything. We could not read the statutory text, so this characterisation is the document's
Model policiesThe attorney general's model immigration policies were issued on 24 February 2025. The document describes them as non-binding and inconsistent with the Governor's directionWe could not read the policies themselves. And the attorney general's office is reported to reject that characterisation; we take no side
The county's consolidated department and 287(g)The document says the county's consolidated police department rejoined the federal 287(g) program on 4 June 2025That department does not police Henderson. The agreement's model and scope could not be verified either. A 287(g) agreement is not an authority to stop people and ask about status; we do not describe its scope
This city's own departmentNo 287(g) record for this department was found in the documentThat does not mean no such agreement exists. The federal participant list could not be read; research could not verify it
Federal fundingThe document records 895,889.60 dollars of federal funding for the county's consolidated department, directed to intelligence gathering and information sharing capacity with federal partners. Approved on 8 August 2025Whether the work was completed could not be verified. And a funding allocation says nothing about any individual's case
National GuardOn 8 August 2025 the Governor recorded in the document that the Guard was authorized to assist immigration operations in an administrative support capacityAdministrative support is not law enforcement authority; the document does not claim the latter
State correctionsAn internal memorandum dated 27 March 2025 states that the state corrections department screens the citizenship status of all incoming inmates, shares information on foreign-born inmates, tracks federal requests and coordinates pre-release transfersThis is a corrections procedure; it describes no arrest or day-to-day policing authority and says nothing about municipal facilities
A bill about schoolsVetoed on 5 June 2025. The bill would have barred federal immigration officers from school grounds without a judicial order and barred sharing student informationIt did not become law. Do not read it as an existing state rule for schools; the veto itself was verified
A federal listRead on 10 October 2026, the list published by the justice department does not include Nevada, nor any Nevada county or cityThat is not an assurance. The department's own page says the list will be reviewed regularly
The document's own termsIt takes effect on signature, runs until terminated, and either party may end it on 30 days written noticeThe document expressly creates no right or benefit enforceable by anyone

What could not be verified, and why it is left blank

  • This city's own police department's position in federal programs. No record was found either in the document or from the agency. We do not say there is none, we say we could not verify it.
  • The federal agency's own participant list could not be read. Its 287(g) page and data file were closed to access this round.
  • A lawsuit against the agreement is reported to have been filed and to be on appeal. We know that only from news sources; no court record was read. We do not predict the outcome.
  • Even the date is contested; the federal document dates the rejoining to 4 June 2025 while some news sources say May. We record the conflict and do not resolve it.
  • The municipal court side. This city has its own Henderson Municipal Court, which hears municipal ordinance matters; but no record was found connecting that court to federal immigration processes, and we write nothing.

Free and low-cost legal help: two doors in the south

  • Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada is the main door in this valley. The address and telephone number are in the footer of its own site: 725 E. Charleston Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89104, (702) 386-1070, TTY (702) 386-1059. Its immigration arm is the Immigration Advocacy Project; the topics it publishes include know-your-rights materials, a family preparedness plan, status, enforcement and detention and bond, schools and employers, parole in place for military families, violence against women act petitions and the crime victim visa. It also runs free classes, ask-a-lawyer sessions and self-help materials.
  • But in the same breath as the word free: we could not read its eligibility criteria this round. We publish no income limit or status requirement and promise no representation. The honest instruction is: apply and find out.
  • The UNLV Immigration Clinic sits inside the law school and is narrow but genuinely different. In its own words it serves three groups: unaccompanied children in removal proceedings, detained adults in removal proceedings, and certain members of the university community. Its own sentences: all our services are free, we never charge a fee, and immediately alongside it, our capacity is limited and we cannot guarantee we can help everyone. The line for the first two groups is 702-895-3000, weekdays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is not a general immigration advice line.
  • Neither is in this city, both are elsewhere in the valley. We publish no distance figure; but plan your journey when you book.
  • What the court itself gives for free: the agency publishes self-help materials and an online court resource. That is general information, not representation.
  • We found no state board, council or program specific to Türkiye, and no Turkish association in this city whose activity we could verify from its own site. We do not say there is none; we say research did not find one.

How not to use this section

We write this plainly. The text of state law could not be read; this city's own department's position was not confirmed by the agency; two senior state offices make opposite statements on the same subject; and the federal document we rely on can be ended by either party on 30 days notice. Do not use this page to decide where to live. The absence of a record for a settlement in a federal document does not mean nothing will happen there; choosing a neighborhood or a city on the basis of these lines will not get you a result, and it will give you either false comfort or false fear. Ask a lawyer about your own situation.

24 · Voting and jury duty

I am not a citizen. Can I register to vote in Henderson, and what if I get a jury summons?

Short answer

Voter registration and voting belong to U.S. citizens only, green card holders included. Registering or voting without being a citizen can have severe consequences for your immigration file and is also a crime. On jury duty we have to be honest: we could not verify this round which public records Nevada builds its master jury list from, so we do not know whether driving records feed into it. What to do if a summons arrives is clear and set out below. One Henderson-specific detail: this city has its own municipal court as well, so a summons may come from more than one court, and calling the number on your own letter matters more here than elsewhere.

Steps, documents and official links

Voter registration: the rule is clear

  • Citizenship is the requirement. Registering and voting in federal and state elections belongs to U.S. citizens. A green card holder, a person with work authorization, a student or someone with a pending asylum application cannot register.
  • The immigration consequence is serious. Registering or voting without being a citizen is a direct problem in front of the officer assessing eligibility and good moral character; the policy manual treats the subject in its own chapter.
  • Read the box on the form. If a license, identity card or public service application contains a voter registration section, signing it counts in most states as a sworn statement that you are a citizen. We could not verify from an official Nevada source this round how a license application connects to voter registration here; read every section of the form placed in front of you, do not sign a section you do not understand, and do not answer yes to a citizenship question if you are not a citizen.
  • Do not fill in voter registration forms handed to you by volunteers at doors or at events, even if a campaign worker tells you it is fine.
  • There are local elections here too. This city elects its own mayor and council, so a municipal election is a real thing here and in the valley's unincorporated areas it is not. But the existence of a local election does not give you a vote, and municipal elections are subject to the same citizenship requirement.
  • One distinction: some local decisions are taken at the ballot box and end up inside the rate you pay at the till; we explain that in the tax section. Being affected by a ballot measure does not give you a vote on it.

Jury summons: what we know and what we do not

  • We say what we do not know: we could not verify which public records Nevada's master jury list is built from. In some states the driving pool feeds the jury list and a lawfully present foreign national can receive a summons.
  • What to do if a summons arrives: do not ignore it and do not throw it away. Call the jury office of the court named on the letter as soon as you can, or respond online as the letter directs, and state that you do not meet the qualifications.
  • Use the number on your letter, not a general number. That warning carries extra weight in this city, because here there are county courts and the city's own municipal court; whichever sent the summons is the one to answer.
  • A summons is not a mistake: lists are built from public records and your name appearing on one does not mean any process has been started against you. It is not something to panic about; it is also not something to leave unanswered.
  • Jury qualification rules genuinely vary from state to state. We could not read Nevada's text on this, because the state legislature site did not open by any route this round; so we write neither that you are qualified nor that you are not. Ask the court and ask for the answer in writing.

If you have recently become a citizen: you can now register. Confirm the requirements and routes on the state election office's own page and take the current form from there.

25 · New citizens

I have become a citizen. How do I get a U.S. passport in Henderson?

Short answer

A first U.S. passport is applied for in person on Form DS-11: you take the original of your citizenship document to an acceptance facility. The good news is that this city has one: the federal acceptance facility database records a counter at the city clerk's office, at the address where city hall sits. But with a caveat: that record comes from the federal file, and the city's own website did not open by any route this round, so we could not confirm hours or procedure from the agency itself. The lesson measured this round is exactly that: the federal file is good for finding a point, bad for hours and procedure. Call before you go: (702) 267-1400.

Steps, documents and official links

An acceptance facility and an agency are two different things

This is the distinction readers confuse most. An acceptance facility can be a post office, a city clerk, a county clerk or a library counter, and it takes and forwards a routine or expedited application. A passport agency is for urgent travel and is an entirely separate thing. Everything below is an acceptance facility only.

The point in this city, with the hedge attached

ItemWhat the record says
The pointThe city clerk's counter, 240 S Water Street, Henderson, NV 89015
Telephone(702) 267-1400
Its note in the federal fileIt states that appointments are available from 8:30 to 11:00
The hedge, and we write it deliberatelyThe city's own page could not be read. This round the same database was measured as showing incomplete hours for the county counter, so the window here may well be incomplete too. Confirm hours, booking and payment rules by telephone
There is a second counter at the same address, do not confuse themThe county clerk also keeps a branch at the same street address, issuing marriage licenses and taking trade name filings. The county clerk's own services list does not show passport acceptance at that branch. So two separate bodies share one building; when you book, say which one you are calling

Let us say plainly why that distinction takes up so much room: a reader in this city who goes to the building where city hall sits meets counters belonging to two separate bodies, and they do not do the same work. The marriage license is at the county clerk; passport acceptance is, on the federal record, at the city clerk. Joining the wrong queue costs half a day.

The counter in the county seat: the widest window is there

For a reader who cannot take a weekday off, knowing about the counter in the county seat makes a real difference. The lines below come from the county clerk's own page, not from the federal file.

ItemWhat the agency says
Government center counter500 S Grand Central Pkwy, Las Vegas, NV 89155. Appointments Monday to Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
Marriage license counter201 E Clark Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89101. Appointments: 7 days, 8:15 to 10:00 a.m. · Appointments: Sunday to Thursday, 3:15 to 7:45 p.m. · Walk-ins: 7 days, 8:30 to 10:00 p.m.
County execution fee35 dollars; cash, credit card, check, money order or cashier's check. Cheques not made payable to the county clerk are not accepted
Federal fee and the cash trapThe federal application fee is payable only by check, money order or cashier's check and to the U.S. Department of State; cash and credit cards are not accepted. So at the same counter there are two fees, two payees and two payment rules
What they do not doNo renewals. The agency writes on its own page that it receives many calls about renewals, that it does not provide the service, and that renewals run by mail only
Identification, and this is the critical lineThe agency's own sentence: a standard Nevada driver license carrying the notation that it is not for federal official use is accepted as primary identification; by contrast a driver authorization card is not accepted for a passport application
BookingAppointments open up to 15 days in advance. The agency's warning: if nothing is showing do not call, check every day. Cancellations on (702) 671-0600
PhotographsBoth counters have a photo booth: 14.99 dollars, credit card only, two 2 by 2 inch photographs. Arrive at least 20 minutes before the appointment. The agency warns that an unacceptable photograph is the commonest reason appointments are rescheduled
ChildrenEvery child needs their own passport whatever their age, and the child must be present; both parents or guardians are asked to attend. Those aged 16 and 17 with their own identification may apply alone, though the agency still recommends a parent attend

And one recorded conflict: the federal file prints one ZIP code for the county government center and the agency's own page prints another. Use the agency's own ZIP code for the agency's own building; we record the conflict rather than resolve it.

Other options in this city

  • Two post offices in Henderson also appear in the federal file as acceptance facilities. Post office appointments are booked through the postal service's own scheduler and each branch has its own window.
  • Do not pick a facility from a line on this page. In the same valley there are points open only a few hours a week and a counter open seven days until late evening. Call before you go.
  • We publish no fee. We could not read the federal passport fees from the agency's own page this round. Read current amounts on the State Department fee page. The county's 35 dollar execution fee is separate from that; the city counter's own execution fee we could not read.
  • Which cases must be in person: adults applying for the first time, children under 16, people whose passport was lost, stolen or damaged, and people whose passport was issued before they were 16 or is more than 15 years old. Renewals go by post.

Urgent travel: we do not name the nearest agency

  • The State Department's agency list could not be read by any route this round. So we do not name the nearest agency, give no address or hours and use no distance figure. Read the list on the department's own page.
  • The general conditions for an urgent application must be confirmed from the same page: nothing we could read came from a primary source, so we publish no figure or number of days here.
  • One warning needs no source: do not pay any site that charges for a passport appointment. Appointments are free.
  • Do not overlook the option that requires no travel: routine and expedited applications run by post through the national passport center.

One distinction: this section is about a U.S. passport, for someone who has naturalised or for a child born here. A Turkish passport is not renewed at a post office; that goes through the Consulate General.

Not sure about a step?

Ask before you take a step that touches your immigration status

A benefit application, an address change, voter registration or a jury summons. Each can land in your file. You can speak with Attorney Asim Clinch, a Turkish-speaking immigration attorney working with clients in Henderson, in English or Turkish.

26 · Things to do

What is there to see in Henderson, and what does it cost to get in?

Short answer

This section opens not with a price list but with a surprise: the free museum that carries this county's name is in Henderson. Because its name carries the county's name, everyone assumes it sits in the county seat; it does not, it is here, admission is free, it opens every day and it covers a large site. The second item is money: state park entry is priced by number plate, not by person. A vehicle without Nevada plates pays the higher rate at every gate, so delaying your registration has an invisible cost. The third is a matter of hours: the free bird viewing preserve in this city closes at midday in summer, so it is not an afternoon destination. The fourth is on the free side: there is a park pass you can borrow with a library card, but it is rationed, and because this city has its own library district you have to ask here separately.

Steps, documents and official links

The reverse name trap: the name says county, the place is here

In this series name traps have usually meant a place not being in the city you assumed. Here the trap runs the other way, and in this city's favor.

  • The museum that carries the county's name is in this city. Its address is 1830 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson, NV 89002, telephone (702) 455-7955. Admission is free, it is open every day from 09:00 to 16:30, and the site runs to about 30 acres. It holds a street of historic houses, a 1932 railway depot building, a ghost town trail and a half-mile nature trail. Closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.
  • It is run by the county, not the city. So this is not a Henderson municipal facility; it is a county facility that happens to be here. If you have a question, your counterpart is the county's cultural division.
  • This is not a correction, it is a gain. For people living elsewhere in the valley it is an outing to plan; for someone in Henderson it is an afternoon. It is the most valuable free item in this file.
  • There is a warning in the other direction and you should not try to correct it: the state historic park whose name carries the county seat's name really is there, not here. Similar names are not always traps.
  • The general rule: look at the operator, not the envelope. In this valley a postal address does not show authority, and a facility's name does not show where it is.

This city's second free item: the bird preserve, but watch the hours

  • 350 E. Galleria Dr., Henderson, NV 89011, telephone 702-267-4180. Admission is free, but every visitor signs in at the visitor center and first-time visitors sign a liability waiver. No pets, no cycling or running around the facility, no feeding the wildlife.
  • And here is the most practical timing fact on this page: on the reported seasonal schedule the site closes at midday in June, July and August. In other seasons it closes in the afternoon, and in winter it opens an hour later. Last entry is half an hour before closing. Closed on 1 January, 4 July, Thanksgiving and 24 and 25 December.
  • But we do not print those hours as settled. The city's own website did not open by any route this round and these hours were read indirectly rather than from the agency's own page. Call before you go; setting off on a summer afternoon and finding the gate closed is the easiest mistake to make in this city.
  • The practical summer conclusion: this is an early morning place. The same is true of most outdoor items in the valley, and we set out the reason in the agencies' own words in the heat section below.

State parks: the fee looks at your plate

The parks are run by the Nevada Division of State Parks, which brands itself Nevada State Parks, central telephone (775) 684-2770. The rates below come from the agency's own fee page, read on 10 October 2026, and we have kept only those reachable from this city.

ParkDay entryNote
Valley of Fire State Park10.00 dollars per vehicle, a vehicle without Nevada plates 15.00 dollarsCamping 20 or 25 dollars per vehicle per night; 10 dollars extra for a serviced site. Entry by bicycle 2 dollars
Spring Mountain Ranch State Park10.00 dollars, out-of-state plate 15.00 dollarsOn the western side of the valley
Ice Age Fossils State Park3.00 dollars per person, 12 and under freeThe only park priced per person rather than per vehicle, and the state's newest. North of the valley
Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Historic ParkMuseum entry 3.00 dollars, 12 and under freeThe founding site of the county seat. Charged as museum admission rather than a per-vehicle gate fee
  • The plate rule ties directly to the vehicle registration section. Delaying registration has an invisible cost, and in a household that visits a few parks a year that is real money. How and when registration is done is in the vehicle registration section.
  • There is no free pedestrian entry. The agency's own rule charges 2 dollars per person for anyone arriving on foot, on horseback or by bicycle at every park that charges. In some states in this series walking in was free; not here.
  • Annual passes: annual day use is 100 dollars and full access 250 dollars, both valid 12 months from the date of purchase and sent as a physical placard by post. There is no renewal; you reapply. The agency also publishes separate passes for Nevada resident seniors and disabled veterans; we publish no price for those, nor for the veteran and tribal member passes.
  • Do not arrive without cash. At least one park in the system explicitly does not take cards, and the agency publishes a separate collection fee for people who do not leave the fee in the self-pay box.

The library park pass: real, but two of them, and asked for separately here

The program is the Nevada State Parks Library Park Pass and it was read from the agency's own page. It is the second most valuable free item in this file, but we do not write that you can have one; we explain the structure and tell you to ask.

QuestionThe agency's answer
What it isA free day-entry permit that a holder of a Nevada public library card can borrow; it covers one vehicle with up to 8 people
Where it worksAt all 27 Nevada state parks. It does not work on federal, regional or other public land
Loan periodOne week, borrowed from your own public library
Museum admissionCovered. The agency names three museum admissions inside state parks
Camping and boatingNot covered, day entry only
Guaranteed entryNo. The agency states that pass holders get no priority and entry depends on capacity
Where to get oneIn the agency's own words: at participating Nevada public libraries, and ask your own library whether it is taking part this year
  • And here is the real number: the agency's own release of 13 January 2023 states that each public library in Nevada was provided with two passes. Two passes, a one-week loan. The pass is rationed; this page promises you no free weekend.
  • There is an extra step in this city: Henderson is not served by the valley's large library district, it has its own. So going to a branch elsewhere in the valley to ask for a pass will get you turned away, and this city's system has to be asked separately about this year. We do not write that it is taking part, because 2026 participation could not be verified for any of the three systems.
  • This is where people go wrong most: the pass does not work on federal land. So it is of no use at the federal recreation area around the lake or at the federal scenic area west of the valley.

The larger areas outside the city

  • The federal recreation area around the lake charges: a private vehicle is 25.00 dollars covering 1 to 7 days; a motorcycle 20 dollars; on foot or by bicycle 15.00 dollars per person; the site-specific annual pass is 45.00 dollars, valid a year from the month of purchase. The line that matters most for a family: in the agency's own words, children under 16 do not need an entrance pass.
  • At the large federal scenic area west of the valley the structure was verified, the price was not. The agency's own pages state that to drive the scenic loop a timed entry reservation is required between 1 October and 31 May for entries between 08:00 and 17:00, and that a separate reservation is needed for each vehicle. The reservation is a separate thing from the entrance fee and is required even if you hold a pass. We publish no figure, because the agency publishes no price on any readable page.
  • The federal fossil monument north of the valley is free. The agency's own sentence: no fee or pass is currently required for entry. But there is an address trap: the agency publishes a postal address and labels it as not to be used for directions. That address is not where the monument is; do not type it into a navigation app. Information line 702-293-8853.
  • The national park at the eastern end of the state charges no entrance fee but is not near here; it is a holiday, not a day out. Cave tours are separately ticketed and payment is cashless.
  • We publish no distance or drive time, because none came from a source this round.

Heat: the agencies' own warnings

We write this as a planning item rather than decoration, and we use the agencies' own language.

  • The national park service's own sentence about the lake area, capitals included: it says it cannot be emphasised enough that hiking from late spring to early autumn can be VERY DANGEROUS because of extreme heat, and recommends postponing hiking plans to cooler seasons.
  • How much water: the same agency says to carry at least one gallon, about 4 litres, of drinking water per person per day and to drink even when you are not thirsty. In summer stay on paved roads, wait with your vehicle if it breaks down, and keep spare water in the car.
  • Swimming: the same page states there are no lifeguards and no designated swimming beaches. Pool toys, inflatable or not, are prohibited and bringing one can draw a citation. In late summer and early autumn there is a blue-green algae warning: do not touch bright green or yellow foam, do not swim there, do not drink untreated water from the lake, and rinse off when you come out.
  • Summer monsoon rain: rain falling far away can produce a flash flood in a valley that has seen none; do not hike or camp in dry washes and low ground.
  • And its concrete counterpart in this city: the bird preserve above is reported to close at midday in summer. Here the heat is not advice; it has turned into a closing time.

What we are not writing in this section

  • Any fee for the federal scenic area west of the valley. We wrote the structure, not the figure.
  • The city's own list of parks and events. The city's site did not open by any route this round; we do not say there is none, we say we could not read it.
  • The name or price of any hotel, show or entertainment venue on the resort corridor. None was researched this round and those prices change constantly. Ask about age limits before you pay; the reason is in the section below.
  • The full statewide park list. We kept only what is reachable from here; the rest is in our Nevada guide.

27 · Free and family-friendly

What is free in Henderson, and where can you take children?

Short answer

In this valley the answer to where can I take the children looks like nowhere else, and the reason is not a list of parks but an age limit. The legal gambling age here is 21, and the regulator's own text defines a class of venue in which patrons under 21 are prohibited from entering. And the same text lists the dance area of such a venue as possibly being a swimming pool or a pool deck. In other words, a hotel pool can legally be a venue for over-21s only: a family that books a hotel on the strength of its pool photographs may not be able to take a child into that pool. That is the source of the most expensive mistake in this section and it is written into the regulator's own rules. The good news: Henderson has genuinely free items, and two of them are inside the city.

Steps, documents and official links

Pools and the age of 21: the question to ask before you book

  • The regulator's own text, defining a class of venue inside a hotel casino property, lists one of its characteristics in these terms: it prohibits patrons under the age of 21 from entering the venue. The same definition states that the dance area may be a designated dance floor, a swimming pool or a pool deck.
  • The practical consequence: if a hotel's pool falls into that class, your child cannot go in. Do not decide from photographs and star ratings; call the hotel before you book and ask whether the pool has an age restriction, and also ask whether the property has a separate pool open to children.
  • In this city the question also has a guest version: a household living in Henderson that puts visiting relatives in a hotel elsewhere in the valley hits the same problem. Through the summer the pool is a reason people choose a hotel in this valley, which is exactly why no booking should be made without asking about the age limit.
  • The gambling age is a separate and stricter item: for under-21s not only playing but loitering in gaming areas is prohibited. We could not read the text of the statute, because the state legislature site did not open by any route this round; so we neither quote it nor publish a penalty figure. What matters in practice: a child can pass through a casino floor with a parent to get from one place to another, but cannot stand and wait at the machines and tables.
  • There is also a night curfew rule, but we do not publish its hours. A night-time limit for under-18s is reported in this county; but sources contradict each other on the hours and the days, we could not read the county code, and we could not read this city's own ordinance either. We publish no time. Because this city has its own government and its own police force, the rule here may genuinely differ; if you are planning a late evening with children, call the city on 702-267-2323.

The items that really are free

  • The museum whose name says county. Set out in the section above: open every day 09:00 to 16:30, admission free, about 30 acres, a street of historic houses, an old railway depot building, a ghost town trail and a half-mile nature trail. For a household with children this is a whole free day out. It also holds a commemorative collection; if you are going with young children, look at what that part contains before you put it in the plan.
  • The bird viewing preserve is free, but it is reported to close at midday in summer and every visitor signs in, with a liability waiver for first-time visitors. No pets, no running, no cycling. Call to confirm the hours before you go, 702-267-4180.
  • The library's outdoor reading trails. This city's own library district runs a program that sets the pages of a children's picture book on boards along a path, and publishes three routes: in one park a loop of about a mile with 18 boards, roughly 30 minutes; at the bird preserve, around one pond, 18 boards, roughly 15 minutes; and along one street, 15 boards, roughly 20 minutes. For a family with small children whose English is not yet strong this may be the most useful item on the page: no ticket, outdoors, at your own pace. One honesty note: the library does not use the word free for these routes on its own page; the boards stand in public places, but because the agency does not say it, we do not write that they are free.
  • A library card and everything behind it. This city is in its own library district and is not served by the valley's large district. You get the card here, and you have to ask about the park pass here too. We keep the hedge heavy: card types and the documents asked for could not be verified this round, and card types read for the other side of the valley cannot be carried here. No statement was found that a Social Security number is asked for, but that is a not found, not a not asked. Call the branch and ask by name whether there is a card type for people who cannot prove an address.
  • The library park pass. Set out above: two per library, one week, and it covers museum admissions inside state parks. We could not verify this city's system's participation this year.
  • The federal fossil monument north of the valley is free. In the agency's own words, no fee or pass is required for entry. Do not put its administrative postal address into a navigation app.
  • Federal free entrance days: the two remaining in 2026 after this page was published are 27 October 2026 and 11 November 2026. Put them in the calendar. Free entry is, in the agency's wording, for U.S. citizens and residents, and other charges such as timed entry can still apply on those days. The 2027 list will be different.

What is not on this list, and why

  • The city's own list of parks, pools and recreation centers. The city's site did not open by any route this round. It is near certain that this city has its own parks and recreation centers, but we do not know which ones, at what hours or at what cost. We do not say there are none, we say we could not read it, and this is the biggest gap on the page. Call the city, 702-267-2323.
  • Paid or discounted cultural venues in other settlements in the valley. We do not carry those answers onto this page; check each venue's own pricing and discount pages.
  • Any figure for the federal scenic area west of the valley, and we explained in the section above that a timed entry reservation is required there for eight months of the year.
  • Do not look for a statewide culture card for low-income households: one state in this series had such a card, but research found no equivalent here. We do not say there is none; we say we could not find one. And in any case this page does not advise anyone to enrol in a benefit program; the immigration consequences of a benefit application are in the public benefits section.
  • We do not write seasonal items as if they ran all year. Splash pads, outdoor events and some park hours depend on the season; fire restrictions in state parks are seasonal too.
  • No community association, cultural center or place of worship by name. We could not verify any of them from its own site this round.

28 · Turkish consulate

Where are Turkish consular matters handled from Henderson?

Short answer

Nevada falls in the consular district of the Consulate General of Türkiye in Los Angeles. We verified that from a list rather than an assumption: the mission's own site gives its district as 12 states plus the Pacific islands, and Nevada appears eighth on the list on two separate pages. There is no Turkish office in Henderson, and none anywhere else in this valley either. Two traps to know before you travel. First, the Consulate General is not in the city of Los Angeles; it is in Beverly Hills. Second, the mission's two pages contradict each other on the email address and on opening hours, and we print both.

Steps, documents and official links

Consul GeneralMenekşe Onuk

Two traps, and both mean a wasted journey

  • The building is not in Los Angeles. The mission's own contact page prints the address as Beverly Hills, CA 90211. Typing Los Angeles into a map and setting off can cost you the appointment. You already know the logic of this trap: in this valley too, a postal address does not tell you which municipality a place sits in. Henderson has a city of its own, so here the city boundary really does mean something, but across the rest of the valley it does not; see the local services section.
  • The attaché offices are in a different building. The Religious Affairs attaché is in the same building as the Consulate General (+1 (424) 313-9449), but the Education attaché and the Trade attaché are at a different address: 5455 Wilshire Blvd. Education attaché Suite 804, +1 310 342 5222, [email protected]; Trade attaché Suite 1120, +1 323 852 1894, [email protected]. Do not go to the Consulate General for a school equivalence matter; book two appointments at two addresses and work out in advance whether they fit into one day.

The consular district: twelve states, one mission

By the mission's own list the district covers Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming, plus the Pacific islands. The same page states that it is one of six Turkish consular missions in the United States, the others being in Boston, Chicago, Houston, Miami and New York, and that the Embassy in Washington also has a consular section.

We publish no distance figure, because none came from a source this round. The statewide picture is in our Nevada guide.

What is handled there

The transaction headings on the mission's own application menu show what actually runs through it:

  • Birth notifications and civil registry matters
  • Marriage notifications
  • Passport matters
  • Military service matters
  • Notarial acts, powers of attorney and signature certification
  • Turkish citizenship matters
  • Estate matters
  • Education and visa headings, information requests and appointments

Booking, checking and cancelling appointments all run through the mission's own menu, which is split in two: consular transactions for Turkish citizens and visa pre-applications for foreign nationals.

We do not publish a document list on this page. Every transaction has its own fee and its own document list, and we could not verify each of them this round. Travelling to another state with the wrong paperwork would be the most expensive advice this page could give you; confirm the list from the appointment menu and the call center.

One piece of good news for Henderson: no time difference

The Consulate General is also on Pacific time, so the published appointment and telephone hours are already your own hours. In some cities in this series the reader has to convert the agency's hours; not here. Against that, the in-person window is three and a half hours a day; if you want to finish more than one matter in a single trip, book appointments on the same day or on consecutive days.

Three things to try before you travel

  1. The e-Devlet portal. Civil registry, address and some document matters can be done remotely; check there first which ones can.
  2. The call center. Open 24 hours, seven days, so the time difference with Türkiye is not an obstacle here, and it is the fastest way to learn which document you need. It is also the fastest way to close the hours conflict above.
  3. Courier or post. Some transactions run on documents sent in. Ask the call center or the mission which ones are accepted; do not send paperwork on your own initiative.

2026 closure days

The 2026 holiday list published on the mission's own contact page contains days falling after this page was published, and two are immediately ahead: 12 October and 29 October. The list also includes 11 November, 26 November and 25 December 2026 and 1 January 2027. The list is annual, so check the current one before booking.

PDF: Turkish Consular Business and Apostilles from Henderson, 2026

29 · Apostille

How do I use a document issued in Henderson in Türkiye?

Short answer

Türkiye and the United States are both parties to the Hague Apostille Convention, so a document issued here needs an apostille, not consular legalisation, to be used in Türkiye. In the Hague Conference's own register of competent authorities, the body shown for Nevada is the Nevada Secretary of State, together with the chief deputy and deputy. We publish no fee, timescale or address in this section, for a concrete reason: every one of that office's sites sat behind a bot wall this round and we could not read the procedure from the agency itself. What we can state with certainty is the thing that actually costs money and time: there is not one apostille counter but four, and sending your document to the wrong one means the package comes back. In Henderson there is one more layer: city hall may be close, but the first link in the chain is not at the city.

Steps, documents and official links

Four counters, and which document goes to which

Type of documentWhich authority
A document issued by the State of Nevada or a Nevada county (birth, death, marriage, a court order, a notarised document)Nevada Secretary of State, or the chief deputy or deputy
A document issued by a federal agency (a naturalisation certificate, for example)The authentications office of the U.S. Department of State. It does not go to the state
A consular report of birth, death or marriage abroad for a U.S. citizenThe vital records unit of the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Consular Affairs
A document issued by a U.S. federal courtThe clerk or a deputy clerk of that court. The Hague list names the relevant federal district court for Nevada

Why this table is worth money to a Turkish reader: a newly arrived household's apostille package is usually mixed. The birth certificate of a child born here goes to the state, while the naturalisation certificate in the same envelope goes to a federal body, not the state. Putting everything in one envelope and sending it to one authority means the package comes back untouched a month later.

In this city the first link is not at the city

Henderson has its own city hall and a reader can take a great many matters there. But vital records are not a city function. The birth certificate of a child born here comes from the county health district or the state vital records office, and the two do not even hold the same years. Which counter to start at is set out in the birth certificate section; an apostille chain that starts at the wrong counter has to be built again from the beginning.

The same logic runs on the marriage side: the license comes from the county clerk, not the city, but in this city the county clerk keeps a branch of its own. See the marriage section.

What we are not writing, and why

  • No fee. We could not read the per-document amount from the state authority's own page.
  • No timescale. We could not read the standard processing time or the expedited option.
  • No address or counter. We could not read whether applications go by post or in person, where an in-person counter is, or whether an appointment is needed.
  • No preliminary certification chain. In some states in this series a document first needs certification by a county clerk or a registrar. We could not verify whether Nevada has such a preliminary step and we write nothing in either direction.
  • Nothing about how foreign documents are handled, either.

Ask all of it in one place: the state authority's own site. Confirm by telephone before you prepare the envelope and ask for the answer in writing.

Do not break the order

  1. Get the document from the right counter. Mind the distinction above.
  2. Translate it if needed and have the translation notarised. None of the apostille authorities in this series does translation. We could not read the Nevada authority's own rule on translation, so we state no firm requirement; but ask about it before you send the envelope.
  3. Take the apostille last. A document carrying an apostille cannot be altered afterwards.

The other direction: using a Turkish document in the United States

For Turkish documents you will use in a U.S. immigration file the direction reverses: those documents are apostilled in Türkiye and submitted here with a certified English translation. No authority in Henderson performs that step.

30 · Time and flights

What is the time difference between Henderson and Türkiye, and how do you get to Istanbul?

Short answer

Henderson is on Pacific time, which produces one of the largest gaps in this series: Türkiye is 10 hours ahead in summer and 11 hours ahead in winter. Türkiye stays on the same clock all year and does not observe daylight saving; here daylight saving applies, so the gap changes by an hour twice a year on its own. The practical consequence is harsh: there is almost no window in which you and a Turkish government office or bank are awake at the same time. On flights we write two things together: the valley's scheduled-service airport is not in this city, and we found no direct flight from it to Istanbul.

Steps, documents and official links

How many hours, and when it changes

PeriodDifference to TürkiyeIf it is 09:00 here, in Türkiye it is
During daylight savingTürkiye is 10 hours ahead19:00
Outside daylight savingTürkiye is 11 hours ahead20:00
  • Clocks go back on the first Sunday in November at 02:00. For 2026 that is 1 November 2026. So in the days this page is published the gap is 10 hours, and after the first week of November it is 11 hours. Because Türkiye does not shift its clock, you experience the change one-sidedly.
  • Clocks go forward on the second Sunday in March at 02:00.
  • Almost the whole state is in one zone, so traveling north or south inside Nevada does not change your clock. The only exception drawn in the regulation is a town at the eastern edge of the state and it has nothing to do with this city.
  • The consulate is in the same zone. The Consulate General in Los Angeles is on Pacific time, so its published appointment and telephone hours are already your hours, with no conversion needed. See the consulate section.

The practical window for calling Türkiye

  • The trap runs the other way: if a bank, hospital or government office in Türkiye works 09:00 to 17:00 on weekdays, the window from here starts in the first hours of the night and ends before dawn. This series has seen seven and eight hour gaps; here it is ten and eleven, so the window is narrower still.
  • Two channels solve it: the e-Devlet portal and the 24 hour consular call center. Both remove the time difference entirely.
  • Tell people calling from Türkiye: an afternoon hour there is the middle of the night here. Plan appointments and family calls accordingly.

Istanbul flights, and a name trap specific to this city

  • The valley's scheduled-service airport: Harry Reid International Airport, code LAS, operated by the Clark County Department of Aviation. Its own airline list contains 31 airlines and Turkish Airlines is not on it.
  • The conclusion, carefully put: research found no direct flight from there to Istanbul. Our basis is the absence of the Turkish flag carrier from the airline list. We do not state flatly that there is no direct flight, because we could not read the airport's point-to-point route list this round. When you search, look at connecting options and confirm the routing on the carrier's own site.
  • And a name trap specific to this city: one of the airfields run by the same county aviation body carries this city's name. But we could not verify this round whether it has scheduled passenger service, so we do not write that Henderson has its own airport. Do not pick that airfield because the name looks familiar; for international travel look at the valley's large airport.
  • A time-sensitive warning: the large airport has announced on its own site that lane closures in its connector tunnels run until December 2026 and asks travellers to allow extra journey time. Leave extra time on the day you fly.
  • A jurisdiction point: the large airport is inside no municipal boundary at all, sitting in unincorporated county territory, and the county operates it. Henderson has a city government but no authority over that airport.
  • Luggage and identification: the document you use on an international flight is a passport. Where the state's cards work and where they do not is set out in the driving license section; you cannot board a plane on a driver authorization card.

Your questions, answered

Frequently asked questions

Henderson is in Clark County, so is it the same as its neighbors?

No, and this is the most important sentence on the page. The other three settlements in the county give the same answer on item after item; Henderson does not. Here there is a city government, where the two unincorporated towns have none at all. Policing is the city's own department, which did not join the valley-wide merger. The library is a separate district, outside the regional system. The county has its own marriage license branch here. The water utility is a city department, not the county water district. Sewer, the refuse authority and the complaint channel sit with the city too. But we do not say everything differs: electricity and gas come from the same two companies, the disconnection rule is identical, the school district is county-wide and Henderson has none of its own, the property tax offices are the same county units, there is no state income tax, the sales tax rate is the same, the substance of the watering rule is the same, landlord and tenant law is the same, and the fair housing complaint body is the same. Both lists are set out as tables in the city services section.

Do I have to give a number to open a water account?

The most useful practical item on this page sits here, and the source is the city's own page. The department states that it works with a credit bureau to verify identity and assess deposits, that identifying information will be requested to open an account over the telephone, and that a person who would prefer not to provide that information may open the account in person using photo identification at the office. The neighboring water district publishes no equivalent sentence, which makes this the most concrete difference between the two pages. A second piece of good news: water and sewer arrive here as one account and one bill, and refuse starts with the water account, so one call settles three items. Two warnings: the residential deposit is a minimum of $150 and is collected up front, and a refund follows at least a year of on-time payments and is applied as a credit; a refund can take up to eight weeks to reach you. On electricity and gas the regulator's answer is different: some utilities may require a number, but many provide an alternative such as a driver's license number. So your first question should not be "can I do this without a number" but "what do you accept as an alternative." The detail is in the utilities section.

I have no Social Security number. Can I get a driving credential?

Nevada has a credential that does not turn on status: the Driver Authorization Card. The agency's own handbook states that a Social Security number is not necessary to obtain it; the card is valid four years and costs $22.50. The agency describes it like this: there are only two differences between this card and a standard license, it states Not Valid for ID in the top portion and the blue banner carries the card's own name instead of the word license; the appearance is otherwise identical. What we put at the center of this page is the two separate information regimes, both from the same handbook: for this card, the handbook states that information used to obtain it will not be released or used to determine legal presence or immigration status; on the standard license and REAL ID route, it states that any immigration documents presented will be submitted for electronic verification of lawful status. We set the two side by side and take no side; which one fits you is a decision for you and your lawyer. We also print a conflict: the agency's document list for this card contains no lawful status document, yet another of its pages says foreign nationals may or may not be eligible depending on their specific immigration status. The detail is in the license section.

Where is that card accepted and where is it not?

The one-line summary: you may drive, but you are not an ID. Verified from the agency's own page as accepted: driving on Nevada streets and highways, registering a vehicle, insuring it, and identification on the agency's own forms. Verified as not accepted: boarding an aircraft and entering federal buildings where identification is required, any benefit, license or service issued by the state or its political subdivisions, and a passport application. Whether a private business accepts it is the business's own decision, and the agency says so on its page. And five doors we could not verify, which we print as gaps: applying for a reduced-fare transit ID, applying for a work card, opening a bank account, using it as an identity document for employment paperwork, and the county's own assistance application. All five are your real life, and for all five we do not say it is refused, we say we could not find out. The county assistance door is the riskiest: for adults the county requires one identity document to be a valid, unexpired, Nevada government issued photo ID showing a Clark County address. A Henderson address is a Clark County address, but we could not confirm from the county's own text whether this card satisfies it. The detail is in the license section.

Can my power be cut off if I cannot pay?

Here the trigger is not a calendar window but temperature. If the forecast for any twenty-four hour period reaches 105 Fahrenheit or above or 15 Fahrenheit or below, a disconnection for non-payment is postponed; those two figures appear in both the regulation and the tariff the company has filed with the regulator, so we write them with confidence. Do not miss four nuances. First, this is a postponement, not a cancellation; the debt remains. Second, if your household includes an elderly person or a person with a disability, the regulation states lower thresholds, but the company's published tariff does not carry them; the tariffs predate the regulation and the two do not agree here, so we write it as a possibility rather than a certainty and tell you to ask your company. Third, the gas exemption is conditional: the tariff states the heat postponement does not apply to the gas utility unless natural gas is essential for air conditioning at that dwelling. Fourth and most important here: water and refuse are entirely outside this regime, and that is sharper in this city. Your water provider is a city department and is not under the regulator. We could not verify whether any heat-based protection reaches the city's water customers, and we assert it neither way. There is also a thirty-day medical postponement, a ten-day written notice before disconnection, and a ban on disconnection at weekends and on holidays. The detail is in the utilities section.

Can I water my garden on any day I like?

No. The city's own page says every customer is assigned, by address, to a watering group labelled A, B, C, D and E. That group decides which days you may irrigate, and you do not choose them. Two rules are absolute: watering on Sundays is never allowed, and irrigation between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. from 1 May through 31 August is not allowed. Watering by hand with a container or a positive shut-off nozzle is allowed any day of the week, regardless of your assigned days. For reseeded turf there is an exemption request of thirty days, once per year, through the city's own request channel; but the time-of-day restriction still applies during it. We publish no fee ladder, and we say why: we could not read this city's own schedule. The neighboring water district publishes a detailed ladder, but that district does not serve Henderson addresses and its rules do not bind one, so we do not copy it here. Ask the city for its own schedule, and if a notice arrives keep its date. The detail is in the water restrictions section.

Will school enrollment ask about immigration status?

First a structural surprise: Henderson has its own city government but no school district of its own. The district is county-wide, and which school your child attends is decided by address, not by the name of the city. The district's own enrollment page states that it does not collect or verify immigration status and cites a state statute. A Social Security number never appears on the enrollment page; that is not the same as "it is not asked for", it means it is not written on their pages. The two items that actually decide the matter are the immunisation record and proof of address. On proof of address the rule is strict in a way that hits newcomers directly: a current utility bill, rent receipt or lease or purchase agreement is accepted, and a driver license, a telephone bill and a cable bill are not. There is a separate route for families without proof of address, which the district runs for people staying in someone else's home. For the child's identity a birth certificate or a passport is accepted, but photocopies are not. On language, let us be plain: the registration system itself runs in two languages, the intake tool in forty-nine, the flagship document in eight; three different things, and Turkish was found on none of them. But the right does not depend on the language: state law gives a parent the right to a qualified interpreter in their own native language. So the correct sentence is not "there is service in Turkish" but "there is a right to request, and this is its door." The detail is in the school section.

Can I get a marriage license here?

Yes, and that is not true of every settlement in this county. The license is issued by the county, but the county has its own branch here; the two unincorporated towns have none at all. But the branch has its own timetable and it is tight: four weekdays, closed over lunch, closed on legal holidays, and cash is not accepted. The downtown bureau is open seven days until midnight but does not accept checks. So being in the same county does not mean going to the same counter. The state-level good news: no waiting period, no blood test. The fee is $102 and both of you must appear in person at the same time; there is an online pre-application, but the license is not issued online. The document side is this county's strongest feature: a passport, a consular identification card and a foreign government issued ID card or driver license (so long as it carries a date of birth) are listed among accepted documents in writing. Documents must be originals, and a foreign birth certificate must be translated into English with the translation notarised. On the number question the county's sentence reads: if you are a United States citizen and have been issued a Social Security Number, you must provide it. The obligation is tied to citizenship and there is not a word about anyone else. We found no source saying a license is refused for lack of a number, and none saying it is granted. The detail is in the marriage section.

Where do I get my child’s birth certificate?

Nevada runs a hybrid: a statewide office plus two county health agencies. A child born in Henderson gets the certificate from the county health agency; the city has no vital records counter of its own. And there is a date limit: the county holds births from 1973 onward. A Clark County birth before 1973 cannot be obtained there at all and goes to the state office. The fee is $38 for the first copy and $25 for each additional one. Personal checks are not accepted; mail and drop-off orders require a money order or a business check. Processing runs two to four weeks, there is no same-day or overnight service, and a finished certificate is held sixty days from the date of payment. The strongest door for a person without a number is here, but let us name the source correctly: it is the state office's published identification list that expressly names a foreign passport, a consular identification card, an employment authorization card, a temporary resident card and a visitor visa accompanied by a valid arrival record, and a Social Security number appears nowhere on those lists. A parent ordering a child's certificate only has to prove their own identity. Warning: those are the state office's lists; we could not read the county agency's own list and we do not copy one onto the other. The detail is in the vital records section.

I have no insurance. Where does Henderson tell me to go?

Three things, and none of them depends on the city; research found no health program run by Henderson itself. First, the marketplace is the state's own: coverage is bought not on the federal site but through Nevada Health Link, operated by the Silver State Health Insurance Exchange. Second, a naming trap: Nevada Medicaid now sits under the Nevada Health Authority, and the former agency name is still everywhere in the paperwork. The children's program is Nevada Check Up, and applications run through the Division of Welfare and Supportive Services via Access Nevada. All four names are correct and none of them is the same thing. Third and most important: from October 1, 2026 federally matched full coverage is open to four status groups only, and refugees and asylees are not on that list. But Nevada has taken an option: the state elected the federal option years ago for lawfully residing children and lawfully residing pregnant people, and the federal agency writes that a state which has elected it must still determine those people eligible for full benefits and must maintain that coverage. Do not merge the age limits: it reaches 21 on the Medicaid side and 19 in the children's program. Lawfully residing is not the same as any immigration status. What remains for everyone else is emergency coverage, which survives the October 1 change. The detail is in the health section.

Are there free clinics?

First the sentence that matters most: a sliding-fee clinic is not a free clinic. The discount is calculated on household income and family size and you still pay something. In Nevada the membership body for these centers is the Nevada Primary Care Association, which publishes the list of organizations on its own page; on the Clark County side that list names the Southern Nevada Community Health Center. We publish no addresses; take them from the clinic's own site. And one sentence we do not add: that list of organizations says nothing at all about immigration status, so we cannot write that status is not asked. We could not separately verify which center serves Henderson itself. In an emergency the answer is different: under federal law a hospital emergency department must screen and stabilise regardless of ability to pay or immigration status, and the payment route behind it is emergency coverage. On the Clark County side University Medical Center is named as the local public hospital. We found no county indigent medical care program; the assistance items we could find are rent, burial and out-of-state transport. And there is a hard identity barrier at that door: for adults the county requires one identity document to be a valid, unexpired, Nevada government issued photo ID showing a Clark County address. The detail is in the clinics section.

Can my landlord ask about my immigration status?

The honest answer has two parts, plus a structural detail unique to this city. First: immigration status and citizenship are not on the protected class list in the state's fair housing provision, which names race, religious creed, color, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, ancestry, familial status and sex. Source of income is not on it either. We read through the section headings of the landlord and tenant chapter and found no section dealing with status or tenant screening. Second: we could not verify their absence. The state legislature's site never opened during this research. So we do not write "no such protection exists"; we write the research could not find one. The structural detail is this: because Henderson has a city government and a municipal code, a city tenant ordinance is in principle possible, where in the two unincorporated towns that door is structurally closed. But we could not verify whether such an ordinance exists, nor whether the state forecloses cities from this field. Three things you do have are verified: a provision barring a landlord from retaliating after certain complaints, the state equal rights commission as the complaint body, and the fact that the rights the tenancy statute gives a tenant are never tied to status in any section. The detail is in the renting section.
